Ugly game, especially in the first half, but always under control really. We could and should have put 40+ on the bunnies if we had that bit more control, space and executed just a little bit better. When Inglis smashed Hoffman, Wallace should have dummied the pass and he would have gone straight through. The telegraphed pass to Merritt was an almost certain 4 points for us if Norman had looked before passing, and there was another line break in the first half which was miserably finished... I thought the Hoffman try was a harsh call against us. Thaiday's movement was backwards even if the ball may have floated forward, and the refs made up for it with that pass from Norman to Reed, which really was miles forward. The strip was a 50/50 call, as Reynolds hand was all over the ball and the movement looked like a strip, regardless of Hunt trying to offload. Anyone trying to blame the refs for the loss is an idiot that didn't see how much our pack dominated theirs, getting us so often over the advantage line. I wouldn't touch our defense, although Te'o trying to do a shoulder charge so close to his own line is nothing but a brain fart, but I have a feeling that Hook is stifling our attack with a very flat and one-dimensional game plan, besides under-utilising one of our greatest weapons in Matt Gillett. I'm assuming he worries that giving the likes of Norman or Gillett free reign could impact our defensive starch and discipline negatively...? His recent admission about his doubts on whether some players would cope is an indication that he may worry too much, and may possibly be the reason for his odd bench and interchange choices, such as Gillett in the front row practically, or Dodds not getting any minutes... We definitely need to give ourselves more room to execute the plays and like someone said, make sure everyone knows which play you're going to execute before it starts! It sometimes looks like they don't train much their attack... Anyway, as long as they're firing at the right time, I have no problem winning ugly, although deservedly like last night!
