I'm sure someone - well, I hope someone - is watching the results/margins and comparing them with a long-term average winning margin/average total of points scored per game. But this is the NRL that according to some people set fire to it's Rainy Day Fund by upping the Club Grants from $7.2m to $13m (John Grant's idea, I think) in 2018. So, nearly doubling it. Increasing it was fine, but can you seriously justify an increase of that size?! So I'll go with hope over sureity. As to the new rules: Some people are pointing out that this kind of situation is what happens when the interchange lowers. Some teams take time to adjust so the first season will so a few more lop-sided results. To make my position clear, I don't mind the lop-sided results every so often. Obviously, if a team is going through that good old "Rebuilding phase", they're going to be the victim of those results more often than not. In the same way I don't mind the grind that was the Warriors/Knights game (or was it Knights/Warriors? Who'd know in these "no Mt Smart games" times?) from a fortnight ago every so often. That's the issue here. There's too many performances of one kind. Let us not also forget that by necessity we have to bow at The Alter Of Pay TV. Pay TV and Sponsors give the sports organisations like the NRL the money, the NRL have to Pay TV and Sponsors a product that will get them income to cover the money given and, in the case of Sponsors, a product that they will not be ashamed to support.
