I thought it was a nervous lead at 28-12. Brisbane blew an opportunity to extend through Isaako and suddenly the Cowboys were beginning to get some arsey calls like that 'kick' from the Cowboys second rower to force a goal line drop out. I don't get that logic at all, it's like when a guy nutmegs himself, it's a knock on every day of the week but in this situation the referee was just trying to be too clever. The game was beginning to turn on that Feldt try. Really disappointed in Oates, he just lost complete sight of Feldt so he didn't jam in and put in a really indecisive attempt which Feldt took full advantage of. That was such a bad defensive read because of all the players in the competition, Oates should know how much of a target Feldt is. They're not going to the centre, so keep an eye on the winger and jam him. It nearly came back to bite the Broncos but fortunately Feldt and Lemuelu came up with that blunder which really changed the game. As soon as that went down I had thoughts of Lockyer-Kelly at the initial Suncorp game so I thought it was worth a look and sure enough. There's no controversy, it was a clear lost ball. I still think the Broncos are too one minded inside the attacking red-zone and don't set up enough Plan Bs. It seemed obvious that they'd work it up the middle then try to shift right. The only Plan B was Levi going himself and invariably being dragged just short or a prop passing it to another prop on the last and killing the set. Fortunately the Cowboys really didn't have anything and even let the Broncos off the hook. If I didn't hear the referee call Taumalolo offside three times I would have been livid with Oates but knew we were going to get the penalty. Don't get me wrong I'm happy with the win. The thing that thrilled me the most about the performance is that the Broncos iced it and didn't just crawl to a 30-18 win. Was good to see Gamble nail that field goal and then set up that try late. That's classic Broncos and was a better representation of the game.
