[QUOTE="Super Freak, post: 3062611, member: 8536"] It was only a pre-season tournament game but it did not feel like one. It was a fiery encounter with the forwards not holding back. Gilly and Geyer got stuck into each other and then Gee and Cartwright got stuck into each other. The Panthers were the better side in the first half. As a result of good field position, good possession and the Broncos starting a little off the pace they raced out to a 16-2 lead and it looked like the Panthers would run away with it. They wanted to win that final to get a trophy in the cabinet after losing the 1990 GF the year prior, but as the Broncos showed the week prior, they aren't a side that will go down easily. A try right before half time and a penalty goal gave them a bit of a boost going into the second half and they hit the ground running scoring a try just minutes into the second stanza after a Panthers mistake and suddenly it was the Broncos on the front foot. They started to gain some good field position and get more possession and Allan Langer showed his class, he was near unstoppable in that second half and was really troubling the Panthers defence but they held strong. It wasn't until the final 6 minutes the Broncos scored again after Renouf beat a couple of tackles and put Chris Johns into space. He raced down the field with Kevin Walters in support and he tried to boot the ball in field but it deflected off a Panthers player and Walters scooped up the ball and scored in the corner and put the Broncos out to a 18-16 lead. Terry Matterson converted to make it 20-16. Broncos ended up holding on to win the game. It was Walters that scored the winning try but it was Willie Carne that ended up winning the game for the Broncos with a try saving tackle on Graeme Bradley in the final minutes.
