It wasn't flashy, but I'd dare rate that win among the Broncos best this season. Make no mistake about it, that game was September come early and both teams came up with some sensational plays. What I liked from Brisbane is that they weren't afraid to back themselves. From their opening set, they displayed plenty of confidence spreading the ball and really caught the Bulldogs off-guard. This seemed to ring especially true on the Ben Hunt try, where the Broncos neglected the two point lead and decided to have a crack at half-time. While the Broncos were fortunate, it was a nice reward and Ben Hunt showed how slippery he can be close to the line. As daring as Brisbane were with the ball, it was their defence that won them the game. The kick-chase was on song and the goal-line defence was a throwback to 2015. The Broncos really got stuck into the Bulldogs on key plays and the defence, especially from the inside players frustrated the Bulldogs into error. There was only one blemish with Gillett failing to mark up on Kasiano, otherwise it was a very impressive display. The win certainly makes the race for the Top 4 that more interesting heading into the final two rounds of the competition. If Brisbane can build on this performance and gain some measure of revenge against Melbourne & Sydney, you never know. If the Broncos do go onto achieve a Top 4 spot, it'd be interesting to know who they'd rather play between the Storm and the Sharks. Lots to look forward to, but last night was certainly a nice way to kick the round off.
