[QUOTE="Big Pete, post: 3067789, member: 1899"] I found it odd that the Gold Coast started the season with Gordon in the first place. I understand that Ash Taylor was injured, but even so they looked like they could have built something with Brimson at the back. The selection that I find curious is Jesse Arthars on the wing. From all reports he's headed to Brisbane at the end of the year, so it doesn't make any sense to put any time into him when the season is over and they need to explore other options. They have Treymain Spry there who is a genuine prospect and while I haven't watched Tweed in recent weeks, he's somebody who deserves a look at heading into 2020. A few weeks ago, the Cowboys/Bulldogs game was shaping up as an out and out dead rubber, but there's been a developing story coming out of Bankstown and they could be on the verge of one of the least likely finals placements since the Canberra Raiders in 2002. I'm not sure what to read into this sudden change in form. We saw a similar run at the end of last year which suggested the Bulldogs were on the right track and maybe able to put a semi-decent side together for 2020. Unfortunately the side by and large went backwards this year and they haven't really made that many changes going forward. It's just difficult seeing this as a genuine turning point for the club and it maybe another cruel false dawn for a club that's really struggled to put together any enterprising football since 2012. With North Queensland, everyone was saying it couldn't get worse than 2018, than it did. 2019 has been a nightmare season, capped off by their captain suffering a stroke and being denied the farewell his career deserved. Paul Green faces the toughest challenge of his relatively young coaching career, and that's staying employed with the Cowboys after next season. If the Cowboys make a similar start as they did this year, that will be the end, with the lesson being for all aspiring coaches is to ensure the future pipeline is well looked after. I'm curious to see if the Dogs can keep their season alive, or if the Cowboys will ignore recent form and lift for the final big game of the season before they brace themselves for Melbourne.
