As I told Fozz, they're the Cronulla Cockroaches and it would be just like them if they made the finals on the back of this season. They're a team that lost their coach early in the piece all their star players have been unavailable for long periods. No Shaun Johnson, no Wade Graham, no Andrew Fifita, no Josh Dugan and Matt Moylan is playing on one hamstring and yet they've still won 10 games. It's a credit to their systems and their ability to develop players like Kennedy, Katoa, Tracey, Mulitalo, Brailey etc. and a few astute signings like Talakai and Rudolph that has allowed them to remain competitive. I thought last night Canberra had an opportunity to redeem a difficult season and at least put themselves in the finals frame and trick themselves into thinking they're on the right track. It's the same song and dance from Canberra and it's something Morkel has touched on various times in regards to Stuart coached teams. There is always a honeymoon period where the team buys into the tough love and they're prepared to run through mountains. However Stuart just always seems to fall short of the mark and those methods invariably backfire. The cracks formed the moment John Bateman signalled his intentions he wanted to return home and they continued when they signed that lout Curtis Scott and leaked all of George Williams' personal information for the sake of PR, losing the trust of the locker room. Canberra are a fractured locker room who can't work together as a group, and they're falling apart because the senior players are closing on retirement. In fact Jarrod Croker should be well and truly a year into his retirement but from what I've read he's agreed to an extension? A bizarre signing if I've seen one. Melbourne still look extremely vulnerable to me. They were missing some players but they still lack direction and players like Harry Grant and Ryan Papenhuyzen won't receive the same space to weave their magic like they did tonight. They should be too good for most teams, but if they come up against a red hot Manly or Penrith then I don't think they'll be able to go with them in those big moments. I still think this is the Panthers year. I feel like all the stars have aligned and Melbourne will find themselves in a similar position as 2018-2019 where they're just missing that edge.
