Manly are a far cry from the defensive powerhouse they used to be under Des. They almost revelled being without the ball and just monstering teams with their defence, only to pick up the pieces with Stewart, Lyon and Orford leading the way. That's obviously going back 10 years, but it seemed like they were on their way a couple of years back through Jake Trbojevic who had a real sting with his defence. I'm not sure what's happened there, but Penrith just had all the time in the world and Manly couldn't get through a set of six to save themselves. Provided he stays fit, Tom Trbojevic will help them escape the cellar but this was a team that could have been a real dark horse for the premiership. They have some wonderful talent coming through, but they're really beginning to look skinny up front. I don't think the Aloiai signing has helped them and they're really missing Joel Thompson on the fringes. I'm also beginning to wonder if the time has come to move on Curtis Sironen. He was pushing for rep honours not that long ago, but he just never stays on the field long enough. It's the worst attribute to have as a professional footballer, unavailability and it just seems like Curtis is missing games through one means or another. I hope the return of Trbojevic rings in the changes for the Sea Eagles. Something along the lines of Trbojevic at fullback, Walker into the centres, Taufua on the wing, Olakau'atu and Sironen on the edge. I'd also be looking to reward Keppie for his performance tonight and bring him into the starting pack. I thought in a disappointing evening, he was one of the few stand-outs for the Sea Eagles. I'd be curious to see Cust given a shot as well, but get the feeling he's best used coming off the bench when the game opens up and he can have some space to run into.
