It's difficult to put into words the pride I feel for what this team has shown tonight. We've come a long, long way from that team that lost 56-0 in Canberra, very much thanks to Anthony Griffin, as well as Andrew Gee and of course Paul White, who took that courageous step to do what needed to be done! What I feared most in the years post Lockyer, was how the team would react to adversity. Well, it doesn't come worse than tonight; from dreadful referee decisions to the incredibly unlucky Jharal Yow Yeh injury, they withstood, overcame and vanquished everything thrown at them last night! Starting with Jharal, I've seen several of those injuries in my time as a soccer player and supporter, and while some players never recovered enough, others came back at the same level. I just hope that the latter will be the case for Yow Yeh, but it will depend much more on the damage to ligaments and tendons than the break itself, no matter how awful it looks! As for the game... Those first 20 minutes were diabolical, just wow! Soft first try with Reed and Norman opening the gates for Inglis, while Beale came in again when he shouldn't have, making way for a too easy 2 on 1, with Inglis drawing Hoffman and putting Everingham through with a simple pass. Besides that moment, we were only in trouble when Souths accelerated the play the ball, and Luke made those darts to put them on the front leg. Our ruck defense still needs to tighten up more, it's our main weakness imo. Credit to the boys though, for the amazing scramble defense every time our line was broken (Hannant and Gillett catching their halfback was inspirational), and the way they accounted for Inglis, Taylor and Burgess relatively easily after those ill-fated first 25 minutes, which in turn allowed Wallace in particular, to start organising our attack and putting us on the front foot with an excellent kicking game. A lot of credit should go to Norman as well for his foresight in Beale's first try, identifying the gap and calling for the ball quickly to put us ahead on the score board. In a game where every Bronco stood up to be counted, Wallace, Gillett, Hoffman (my POTS), Thaiday, Hannant, Te'o, Hunt and Beale led the charge. Damm, I love this team! Hopefully Beale will stay on the right wing (where he actually appears more comfortable) and Gagai will make the left his own.
