However people try to give him too much credit for 'building' the team when his recruitment and development of players was surprisingly poor. I'm probably on record of defending Ivan, but at the time I remember writing that if he was to go, I'd want Hook as coach. It wouldn't have been a good fit for either party. Hook needed to make an instant impact right away but he was going to be put in charge of a club that was at rock bottom with limited resources. At least at the Dragons he had a few players he worked with in the past and they had some wriggle room for him to jump at these signings.
