1. Isaako - He was far from our worst and seems to be a safe option at the back, but if this team is going to win any games ever, we need as many creative players on field at the one time as possible, and if that man is someone like Niu then fair enough, but right now Isaako is not looking like that person. Would happily keep him on the wing for his goalkicking alone. 6 2. Coates - Had a few brain explosions but was otherwise very impressive. His ability in the contested kicks is Folau-esque, while physically he's closer to Inglis. He's gonna be some player one day. Now that Oates time on the wing appears to be over, I'd suggest he has a mortgage on the spot now. 7 3. Staggs - You can tell everytime he get his hands on the ball he immediately puts the defence in two minds. He is close to our only strike weapon currently in the squad. Thank **** TPJ is back next week. He really needs to work harder in defence though 7 4. Boyd - Have to give him credit, he actually put in last night. Got a try, should have had a double. His defence is still putrid though. I refuse to believe Boyd entered his 30's and suddenly forgot to mark his man. There's still no place in this side for him when we are full strength, but that clearly doesn't matter. 5 5. Farnworth - I like him. His returns into the line are always solid and far better than Isaako. We haven't seen nearly anything of what he can do in attack yet though. Even when we were down that end, it was bombs away to the other sideline. Destined for Boyd's centre spot next season I imagine. 6 6. Milford - I was pretty meh on Milford tonight contrary to a lot of people. It didn't feel like he was even there until he fruitlessly tried to chime in towards the end to win the game late, which he did very poorly. Not running the ball anywhere near enough, not getting involved enough, not good enough. Needs a spell on the bench in the vain hope of getting a rocket up him. To his credit, he did put his body on the line more in defence than he usually does. Still nowhere near good enough for his value. 4 7. Croft - Not much different to Milford on this occasion. Loved the bombs he put on Coates tits but his running of the ball was mostly ineffectual and his defence was poor. Did put in one good placement kick late in the 2nd half when we desperately needed it but he doesn't do it anywhere near enough. Really doesn't seem like captain material somehow. 4 8. Lodge - Mostly did exactly what we needed him to. Did his best to lead from the front, hit hard and effectively in defence, didn't mess around with eating the metres either. His 2nd half stint was less impressive than his first but that's to be expected with the refs riding us into the dirt. 7 9. Paix - Much better effort than last week. Probably not what we need in the 9 in the long term (Turpin isn't exactly shaking in his boots) but he's getting the job needed of him done admirably. Might be pushed out of the side for Milford upon Turpin's return if Dearden comes in and kills it. 6 10. Haas - He was huge, both physically and metaphorically. It's a shame it wasn't enough to net us the win but that was hardly his fault. He was probably our best on ground. 8 11. Oates - To his credit, he had a far better debut in the 2nd row than I think anyone expected. He commited to tackles, hit the ball up hard, and hardly shamed himself. Given time he will only get better in the position as well. 7 12. Joe O - He's barely clinging on to first grade at this point. I'm aware he was playing out of position on this occasion, but he has been far from impressive for some time now, and to be frank at full strength he absolutely doesn't make the starting 13 and is in a fight for the bench. Another one on way too much money for way too long. 4 13. Carrigan - The captain in waiting was right up there with Haas for this game. I'm looking forward to seeing what he brings when Glenn returns next week and relieves him of the burden of the captaincy for now, because he has been close to our best in terms of consistency all year and he seems like he's just about ready to explode onto the scene when it comes to the 13 jumper. An Origin berth might not be out of the question. 8
