The way I see it, there's six good teams in 2020. Sydney, Melbourne, Parramatta, Canberra, Manly and Newcastle in about that order. Then I would have Penrith just below them - they've got some good players but they aren't as well drilled as the other six. They've made a decent start though, so I think they'll find their way into the 8. Then you've got nine teams making up the numbers. Of those nine, I'd say Souths are the only team that's capable of really causing a stir and that will hinge on their experienced senior players stepping up. If they can get more out of guys like Latrell, Gagai and Roberts they might be able to knock a few of those top six over and beat the rest all those eight other sides. That's my early feel after five weeks. Usually one of the early pace setters falls well off the pace but I'm not sure if that will be the case without a rep season, reserve grade and compromised coaching squads. I don't think teams will have that bounce back factor, unless they run into a side in a similar situation. This should be the best round of the competition to date with a lot of even match-ups across the board. The only games that look lopsided to me are Knights/Broncos and Warriors/Rabbitohs. Even then, Brisbane would have to be desperate and I'm keen to see how Newcastle handle their first loss of the year. The Warriors should keep the Rabbits honest as well, they had it pretty easy against the Gold Coast, especially since the referee's weren't interested in giving the Titans any favours.
