A real cat amongst the pigeons scenario. I can't say I'm a fan of the Barba to Five Eigth move, outside of his inside balls play, Barba has really struggled with the playmaking duties and I think he'd be a very easy target in defence. I also don't like the idea of playing Hodges at fullback, I don't think he can handle it for 80 and Souths would be one of the last teams you'd want to throw in a make-shift fullback given the quality of their kicking game. Paia'Aua is the best short term prospect we have but I question whether he's physically ready to handle the demands of first grade. I don't think I've ever seen a 19 year old League player with more bandages and strapping plus his skill-set is still very raw. On top of that, I don't think he was really considered an option for the bulk of the pre-season and judging by the trial selections, seemingly was behind Nikorima & Strasser for the halves spot. I think he's better off developing in the ISC and spending more time in the senior squad, developing combinations. I will say, I prefer Paia'Aua over Kodi because Duncan strikes me more as a team player which I believe is important element of a five eigth. It's just a matter of whether he's ready to take the next step. So I'd go with the guy who appeared to be the first drop in the position - Strasser. I don't think he's a long term option or anything, but he's familiar enough with the structures and I believe if he follows a simple enough role of spreading the ball and helping Hunt with the long distance kicking game, he'd be a handy depth option. Also calling shotgun in the SVRL.
