The scans have revealed that while McGuire has a torn anterior ligament in his ankle, there is no damage to the Achilles' tendon in the same area that he had previously ruptured. While McGuire is certainly out of football for at least the near future, medical staff could not put an exact time frame on it until he sees a specialist. "We think it is unlikely he will need surgery but he will see a specialist next week to make sure," said Broncos' High Performance Manager Jeremy Hickmans. "At this stage we don't have a time scale for a return to the playing field until he sees that specialist. "The good news around the scans was that while there was some query about his previously-injured Achilles' tendon, there looks to be no concern there." McGuire started last night's 24-20 win over the Rabbitohs at hooker in place of Andrew McCullough, who suffered an elbow injury the previous week.
