If I was fantasy coaching the side, Baptiste would have been a permanent fixture of the first grade side since 2011. However, I can understand why it didn't work out that way. Kurt was still playing 20s at that time and had picked up a lot of bad NYC habits that needed ironing out. Hook had to make a decision - give him 10-20 minute spurts in first grade and hope he'd learn in those short durations or have him play longer minutes in the Queensland Cup. Both have their positives and negatives but long term I see more of a benefit in QCup. The only criticism I could make is that I believed he deserved a shot ahead of Capewell off the bench. Luke was considered the best player in the QCup but long term his future didn't lie in the dummy half position and I don't think his form necessarily made him a better choice. I attribute it to a slow start to the season, where Kurt was recovering from I believe a shoulder operation. Fast forward to this year and when there was a spot on the line for Baptiste, Kurt dislocated his shoulder and the spot instead went to dual Queensland Cup premiership winning rake, Jake Granville. For mine, I believe Granville may have the edge on Baptiste at the moment but long term I see Kurt being a better hooker than Jake and possibly McCullough. It'd be a shame to lose Baptiste, I've been a fan since I watched him make his debut for the NYC side but it isn't the end of the world either. McCullough's best years are infront of him, same with Granville and we've got Cullen & Berrell coming through who look like they could be capable of big things.
