Have to agree to disagree. By rights you're saying if a player instinctively touches a referee while he's in the defensive line, say to get around him, that should be charged too? If the referee and captain have a chat, and the captain pats him on the back in a "no worries, understood" kind of fashion, charge him. Where has this notion that any physical contact is disrespect? And when did we lose all sense of perspective that we can't make judgments on a case on merit? The very fact players can speak to referees as disrespectfully as they like and unless they drop one of the C bombs (one is cheat...) they never get charged. But **** me, make a hand gesture or touch his shirt and you're hit with a charge. It's ridiculous. I'd be happy to accept it if every captain who argued with the referee got a charge. Because afterall, we're taught from under 6s that the referee won't change his mind. Ask a question sure, but when you get the answer you say "thanks, sir" and get on with the game. It's disrespectful otherwise. Do we want to sanitise our game that much? The most ridiculous notion I heard is that "kids will go out on the field on the weekend and tug the referee's shirt if Sam gets let off"...what, a, joke.
