If you'd like to join the chorus to let the RLWC organisers and, more specifically, Channel 9 know how dismal and disappointing the coverage has been, log on to the website http://www.rlwc08.com - might be more likely to have an impact than simply venting here on BHQ? I'll add my 2 bob's worth to this thread too. Not only are we not getting live broadcasts on free-to-air TV, but often the scheduled times change at the last minute - for example, PNG vs NZ was in the TV guide for 10.15pm and broadcast from 9.40pm. If it hadn't been for a promo I caught by chance, while watching the news, I wouldn't have known of the change and missed out. The coverage got off to a great start with the Indigenous vs NZ Maori match....as far as I'm concerned, still the highlight thus far...but quickly deteriorated with delayed coverage. Surely, Channel 9, it would be possible to go without yet another innane episode of (Not) Funniest Home Videos and a repeat showing of a movie in preference to live support for our national game? The broadcaster's dubious support of the game started with the opening ceremony - nothing more than a glorified ad for Baz Luhrmann's new film "Australia". Why the organisers couldn't put together suitable, stirring vision of this country (it IS a world cup, after all) from all the images readily available, is beyond me. For heaven's sake, why use a promo for a movie????? Could it have been to promote something that Channel 9 has a heavy financial interest in???? If I hadn't bought tickets to the final over 12 months ago, I wouldn't (a) know the RLWC was even on; and (b) be inclined to attend, since I've hardly had a chance to see any games. Come on organisers...come on Channel 9....do this supposed world cup some justice and make it available for all viewers (incl.families) at a decent, kid-friendly time slot!
