[QUOTE="Number6, post: 2874583, member: 9008"] Like to see video ref replaced with captains challenge. 2 unsuccessful per half (additive) and 1 extra in overtime. Only for use when natural breakdown in play I.e. Tries, scrums, penalties or drop outs. Captain on field gets 10 seconds after end of play to signal. Takes heat off refs as if players disagree then can use it but if everyone misses something the that is life. If teams waste challenges then their problem. If teams use it as a tactical time out no problem with that but costs a challenge. Only issue is how adjudicated. I think should go back to balance of probabilities. 50/50 goes to original decision (maybe with referral back to team) but if more likely no try then no try. If insufficient evidence available to add to decision then team gets referral back since no evidence is not a wrong referral. Need to experiment with number and when can be used. Would add drama to game and tension about big calls without sucking the spontaneity out of obvious tries where we automatically go upstairs to be sure about onside or whatever. Would make refs more accountable for bad calls on field too. Don't have issue with bad strip calls or players holding the defensive player to milk a penalty or professional fouls not binned going upstairs. 3 refs who can't communicate in bunker each get one vote on question asked to eliminate one person screwing up the call. Transparent, fair and minimises error while increases entertainment. Harder for media, players and fans to detract from game by obsessing about bad calls when own team is responsible for challenge and fair oversight. Aside from not getting challenges back when it is umpires call think the system works well in cricket. Only other issue is video ref error or individual interpretation but having 3 independent refs cuts the odds of this (maybe 1 an ex player trained as a ref {can't do own teams}, 1 from current pool of on field refs, lead specialist video ref).
