I watched the game last night. And found Brown's comments afterwards somewhat startling. I recall a few years back when WB was taking over St. George after Brown had left it in a mess. Brown was getting bagged all over the media and WB seemed to be the only one who came out and publicly supported him. What WB said about the situation at Newcastle was completely misconstrued by Browny and he should be ashamed of what he said. If WB was a Sydney born coach he would be totally untouchable and Brown would have been hounded to with in an inch of his life for daring to impugn the credibility of a living legend. As far as the team goes, we are getting there. let's not forget we lost two mainstays in the pack in Blair and Ese Ese. Add to this Macca is just coming back from a serious injury and the rest of the pack is either on their way out or on their way in (not to mention the hellfire Lodge has had to endure). It means it will take some time to get the pack working as a cohesive unit. Only then will the backs be able to function properly. As for the backs, Boyd is slowly recovering from busted hammies, Bird is trying to get match fit and work out what his role is and if that was not enough the halves coach ups and leaves after four weeks. All things considered we are actually doing OK to have two wins on the board. I look at the likes of Parra and Storm and think we are so much further down the road to coming up with a team that will be able to play a bit. And there is the final point - a team. In order to have a team you need the proper support. That means the boys need to be encouraged and egged on to improve as they seek to find cohesion and confidence. If any of them took a look at the gloom and doom some folks write on here they'd give it away tomorrow. I'm sick of watching the dross they are dishing up each week at the moment, but I can see a number of reasons why it is happening. I'm happy to stick by them as they are my team through the good and the bad times. The Southern press are having a field day at the mo watching elements of the the fan base implode. The feeding frenzy reached it's peak when Browny came out with that low, gutter type snark. Back tracking and pretending the 'little head and the big head' metaphor was misunderstood made it even worse. For mine, what was said, and what was not said to condemn it was beyond the pale by the Southerners, that remark will come back to haunt them come September.
