[QUOTE="rnabokov, post: 2610075, member: 1847"] I make no secret of the fact, and never have, that I don't think much of Bennett as a coach. Strategically and tactically, he has always been average IMO. I would rather have Hasler or Toovey, even Bellamy, any day. Bennett is good at bringing out the best in individual players, and i don't doubt he played a huge role in creating a great club. I think it is important to distinguish between what Bennet has, and can do for the club, as opposed to what he can do as a coach. I think Beads's post above says that well- Bennett as the "man manager" vs Bennett the tactician. For mine, the majority of the premierships he won was more to do with the quality of the players in his rosters than anything creative or brilliant he did in terms of strategy and tactics. His last few years at the Broncos were IMO, no less awful as those with Henjak and now Griffin. So now, he backdoors a deal out of the blue, in the most critical part of the season that gets him back here with a bloody good roster for '15 - dominant prop excepted, although there are game plans which compensate well for that, and, shock horror, under Hook, that game plan has actually worked well this year, and in spits and dribbles last year. Trouble is, one of Hook's greatest weaknesses is his inability to get consistency into the team, both in terms of attitude and execution. I really believe sacking Hook a week after the whole team publicly declared their loyalty to him showed in the way we played last night. I am still disgusted at the way the backdoor deal was done and trumpeted in the media. As for Hook, I feel sympathy for the way he was dumped yet I still feel no sympathy for the fact he is just not yet, if ever, a complete 1st grade coach. He may have atoned for one mortal sin in the Hoffman at 5/8 debacle, but he still persists with idiotic bench selections and his pathetic use of the bench, and an apparent inability to bring out consistently, the absolute best in his players individually, then integrate that into a team performance where the game plan is well executed and the team is committed for the full 80 minutes, which is one of Bennett's strengths. For the record, referring to an earlier post by 'spawn I think, I was one who previously posted, and still believe, we can be a top 4 side, and my position on that will remain as such until next week at least. As I have been posting all year, the key to this team's success this year is (1) Barba doing a good job as a play maker, (2) our forwards playing intelligent football - recognizing that they are never going to dominate the middle and thus moving the ball ASAP away from the ruck to Hunt and Barba, (3) Using our top notch edge and backline - getting them quality ball in good position (4) defence - like we showed we can do last week, with great line speed and largely effective tackling in the middle. Next week's game against Manly will show whether this team has just given up the ghost, or intends to show they are true professionals and loyal to the great club they play for, and to the loyal fans who support the club and passionately follow the team.
