They could potentially hurt their careers, that is true. They could also find themselves on the outer with the new coach. Nothing is guaranteed. They know where they stand with WB. Can they say the same for the new coach. Every time a coach is appointed players who were fixtures of the team get shifted or shift. Personalities clash, the styles of attack and defence and even assistant coaching staff, people they work with on a regular basis, can have an impact. The best they can do is see where the dust settles and make their call accordingly. The argument about facilities is somewhat superficial. It is great they have it here but it wouldn't do anything to make or break a career. Those kind of things are most important to the up-and-coming players in the system, rather than the established ones. If I was part of the decision makers at the broncos, I would be trying to make the transition to the new coach as seamless as possible, tying down some of the old faces around WB, even if it costs them to remove them when the new coach establishes himself and seeks change. You want the players comfortable in their routines during this change and leave the disruptions to the minimum. There were plenty regardless but its important the team is in a good a place as it can be for the new coach, rather working from ground up. On the flip side, WB will be trying to lure some of the more reliable types at the clubs with him when he goes to make his own (but also potentially others) transition easier. To give some perspective, look at the broncos team, before and after bennet. Barba was a troubled star, wallace a struggling half. Oates was an up-and-coming 2nd row. We had co-captains in hodges and thaiday. Today we have boyd as captain, oates is an established winger and knik is half. In two years will knik be here? oates? Boyd will have retired, possibly gillet and macca by then. Lodge and Roberts will either have had two further faultless service, or be gone for good as players. Everything will be in the air and new coach will have work cut out dealing with it. Everybody thinks the new coach will sweep all our troubles away and bring everything lacking in the side to the forefront for correction. The truth is, if it were that easy, WB would have gone in 2016. Broncos need a good coach and I don't doubt siebold can be that. They also need a great leader who can heal the wounds and smooth the transitions. That part i see being much harder.
