It is understood the Broncos are finally ready to call time on Bennett’s relationship with the club, clearing the way for South Sydney coach Anthony Seibold to make an immediate move to Brisbane for the 2019 season. Bennett, in turn, will be given a soft landing by the Rabbitohs, the club he has already agreed to coach from 2020. Bennett was given the choice to leave the Broncos of his own free will but opted to dig in his heels, insisting he wanted to serve the final year of his existing deal. The Broncos were reluctant to sack the man who guided the club to six premierships. However, it is understood they are finally ready to pull the trigger and end an association which has been forged over more than two decades, involving two stints at the club. The decision to act this afternoon comes as Bennett prepares to return to pre-season training with the Broncos tomorrow morning.
