Just look at the absolute state of the teams he leaves after he's had a period of near complete control of recruitment. Souths are geniuses for not letting him touch anything. The rorters came 15th one year and then had a period of success, I'd rather be in their current position than ours. So if that's our hard road to success in a year or two's time bring it on. Yep a Bennett approved and shilled for signing that is going to haunt us badly. The decisions he made were just flat out dumb. He's not some sort of conniving genius villain who planned this, he's just not good at recruiting or retaining players. Most of his success came in a period where we were the equivalent of the modern day Roosters in terms of our squad and when he had an actual genius recruiting talent. '06 was won off the brilliance of one of the best players of all time. Since then I concede that the storm cheating the cap has ruined 10 years+ of NRL because they shouldn't have been, and still shouldn't because they are still reaping the rewards of cheating to retain Smith, a force.
