Like most of us I was more then disappointed with Sunday’s effort, yes I know that it was Lockyers first game back for a while and there was bound to be some complacency playing the second last team in the comp but should we have played so badly? I am going to lay the blame (for the want of a better word) squarely on a few players in particular and only because I expected more and they were the major part of the reason we went so well at the beginning of the season. Simms – Started the season as one of the buys of the season, hit hard and made plenty of ground with his strong running and showed good hands and passing game before the line creating opportunities out wide. Has really dropped off the pace and his rapid decline in form has been alarming. Must change his grip on the ball as he has too many lose carries resulting in easy turn over’s. Thaiday – Was man of the match in many games early in the season but since his SoO selection has been notably quiet. Has he been worked out by the other teams or just got complacent? He is a forward leader now and needs more constancy. Hammant – had a Webcke like start of the season, strong powerful runs into the fray, but has gone missing since his SoO call up? Is he already playing for the Dogs? Boyd – Proved the critics wrong with a much improved performance and even led the NRL try scoring list but again seems to have gotten the SoO curse and hasn’t been seen since his selection. More is expected. Players of concern Marsh – Can be excused due to injury, but needs to get back on the paddock and put in a few decent performances as much was expected and so far very little delivered, he’s on notice. Clinton – So far the Broncos dud of the year, not enough go forward, too many errors and lack of grunt in defence. Has a lot of ground to make up with fans before he proves to have been an astute buy. To me the jury is out, but due back really soon and it doesn’t look good. Parker – Was a huge part of our team when the chips were down last year, but so far as failed to replicate his form of last year. Should be doing the kicking instead of cross-eye Ennis. A senior player now and more is expected. Unless there is a major attitude change we will get towelled buy the Cowboys this week because they are looking at this game as the final they were supposed to have. Thurston is getting his confidence back and we are prime for the taking. To say it is a danger game, it is a game, if lost, will push us out of the 8 and we can kiss a top 4 spot goodbye (if we haven’t already). Last weeks 2 points may end up being a pivotal moment in our 2008 season. Personally I think our whole season is balanced on what happens next week and the players I mentioned above are the key.
