To elaborate a little. Back when Oztag commercialised, Chris Parkes took over the responsibility of Queensland Oztag, while Perry Haddock controlled NSW. Both were responsible for developing the sport. In that time, NSW has grown to a player base of something like 70000 adults and 20000 juniors. Queensland has a player base of under 10000 and a few hundred juniors. Parkes lives in Sydney and his primary business is Shoot Out Golf at Cronulla. He sees Oztag in Queensland simply as a bit of cheap income on the side and does the bare minimum to a) keep it going and b) ensure he makes a profit each season. Result is he skimps on referee and player development, doesn't give a shit about the rep scene (which is still relatively social but is a good way to promote the sport), does nothing to promote it, and puts the cost up per player and per team every season. He puts people in "charge" of each competition and then underpays them, abuses them and sacks them. Not only that, but Australian Oztag, under the leadership of Bill Harrigan, has been trying to reform the game nationwide. Parkes has refused to go along with it, because it would require him to relinquish some control. So basically Australian Oztag has excluded him from everything. Effectively Parkes-run competitions aren't supported by Australian Oztag. What's happened is a whole range of other competitions has sprung up around Queensland, individually owned and operated, and in cooperation with Australian Oztag. The idea being to draw players from Parkes-run competitions to the others until he's losing money...subsequently he will then walk out on the game and we can get on with making it more competitive and popular in Queensland. People offer time and again to buy him out, but he refuses to sell. It's ridiculous.
