Seriously, both of them talk utter crap, so for Weidler to play the "I'm better than you" card is laughable. Especially since most of Weidler's scoops come from those allegedly connected with organised crime and salary cap cheating.
The two of them just prove that whether it's Murdoch or Fairfax, journalism in this country is utter shight.
RIGHTING THE WRONGS
POOR old Phil Rothfield is looking even more red-faced than usual after Petero Civoniceva decided to quit Penrith and rejoin Brisbane. Rothfield took great delight in rubbishing my story that Civoniceva heard rumours he was not part of Phil Gould's plans and went to town on me. Civoniceva has confirmed he's heard rumours about his future - what he hasn't revealed was that he was tipped by a very well-placed Panthers official that he should look around. He did and the result was a deal with the Broncos. My understanding is it was Steve Georgallis who gave Civoniceva the heads-up that he may not be wanted. It's little wonder he was so disappointed that Georgallis was told he was not needed and Ivan Cleary would be stepping in. The day after I revealed Civoniceva had concerns about his future, the Panthers tried to hose down the story by saying he was going to be a Panther for life - well at least until the end of the season. The truth is that he knew he was not a priority and started to look around. If you want to know why, ask Petero or Gus. Civoniceva is a powerful figure at the Panthers, even more than Gus because he has the ears and minds of the players. He is also not afraid to question authority. That type of understanding is a bit too deep for a bloke like Rothfield. You may remember Rothfield leapt into print with a back-page story that Chris Sandow would be staying at Souths about 24 hours before he signed a deal with the Eels. At least it proves he is one Rupert Murdoch journo who is clearly not hacking into mobile phones.
