First Injury - Maranta

LACHLAN Maranta has been hit with a staggering injury blow less than two weeks before 2016 trial matches begin.

Maranta injured his wrist at training last week and received the bad news when he visited the specialist today.

He is booked in for surgery tomorrow to repair a fractured bone that will require a recovery of 10 to 12 weeks.

Maranta said he had feared the worst.

"It was pretty evident I had done something," he said.

"I tried to strap it up and keep training but it was no good.

"This morning the doctor basically told me I had to get the surgery.

"I wasn't shocked going in - I had tried to positive but in the back of my mind I knew I had done something."

The injury will rob Maranta of an appearance in the World All Stars team to play the Indigenous All Stars at Suncorp Stadium next month.

It will also cost him a chance to play in the World Club series against Wigan in England and several of the early rounds of the 2016 NRL competition.

But Maranta said he was going to look on the bright side of things.

This injury could easily have happened just after the start of the season and cost him a lot more.

"All I can do now is make sure I get my rehabilitation right," he said.

"We have seven weeks until the season starts from now, so at least that should cover more than half my recovery time.

"There is a bit of a silver lining there and I think that is the way you have to look at these things."

I'm going to retract what I just said, was little more then baiting and I apologise. No one here at least would wish that upon him and I said it out of frustration for Maranta's bad luck.

Doubt he will get a run ahead of Kahu or Reed, Anderson would be his competition.

He might well do with Maranta's absence his chance has improved, though I'd be surprised he gets the nod ahead of Kahu or Reed, definitely can see him filling in if required for sure.

Reed is out for the first month or so. Kahu will push into the centres, so somebody will be getting a go on the vacant wing.

Yeah your right, well there you go, Anderson or Eden.

As much as I feel bad for him.. That's exciting news imo.

If he's out for the amount specified he'll be healthy by Round 6-8 ish, and will probably need a few QCUP games to get his match fitness. That gives Anderson about 10 weeks on the right wing to prove he's better than Maranta. I really hope he takes his opportunity and runs with it.

(P.S - This is all assuming Wayne picks Anderson and not something stupid like Whitchurch at left centre and Kahu right wing for the first 2 months)

I doubt he would have that long to impress, Reed will be back eventually and he would have to play some really impressive football to keep Kahu off the wing or force Oates to the bench that is ever crowded as it is(that isn't impossible still but realistically).
