I had read the article before I read your post. Yes, the very same article and I read the part that got you wound up my initial thought was the same as yours. That said I realized that selective quoting and omission can completely change the direction or intent of the person quoted. I don't think that Gallen was referring to the Broncos rather it was as I said, the hypothetical scenario to which he was responding.
It's hard to believe you and others think Gallen doesn't know that the Broncos play semi final football virtually every year, that they are hugely successful as a team and are without doubt one of the most successful teams in every department with the greatest coach of all time. Pretty sure Gallen knows all that so it begs the question if you think about it. Was he really referring to the Broncos or just musing that playing for a team at the top is not as important to Bird as getting to play where he wants ?
If Gallen is so clued up on the Broncos, surely he would see that Bird is able to both play for a successful club that almost always makes the finals, and get his hand on the ball more often? By Gallen's own reasoning, Bird would be a fool to return to the Sharks, seeing as Bird gets to have his cake and eat it too at the Broncos.
