According to the usual suspects, Jack Bird has been given the go-ahead to mosey over to another club, with Canterbury, Penrith and former employers Cronulla and St George Illawarra being namechecked.

With Jack saddled in until the end of next year, his $975,000 contract is stinking up the Bronco's books, cutting them short of retaining their upwardly mobile forward, David Fifita. Should another club be willing to roll the dice, the Broncos are prepared to pony up around $400,000 to subsidize his transition, freeing up a cool half-million to stave off the marauding Titans.

“It’s up to Jack what he wants to do. Jack has a lot of family and friends in Sydney. He has had rotten luck coming here and at times he has probably struggled being isolated on his own in rehab and not having a lot of family and friends around him. I’m not aware if he wants out but it’s Jack’s call. He does have a contract with us next year, but if he feels like he will get back to his best physical and mental health at another club in Sydney, then it’s a decision only he can make.”
