2017 Brisbane Broncos Captain

Has to be Boyd. So given that seems to be what everyone expects, I completely expect our smart ass coach to bring back Stu Kelly and make him captain or something.

Nah, he will make Blair captain just to piss gordy off. (That was a joke UB). I think it will be Boyd (unless he does not want it). I don't know if Hunt is there mentally to take on the captaincy, Milford is still too young. So it appears either Boyd or McCullough.

Ben hunt needs to win a gf for us before he's mentally ready.

Definitely Boyd. He has matured into quite the inspirational leader on the field and has improved massively off the field with the media.

Macca is close. McGuire is a smokey also which i actually wouldn't mind.

Last year I would have said Hunt but I'm not convinved yet. He needs to take that extra step.

I think it's Boyds if he wants it .... he's matured a lot as a player and person in the last couple of years.

Boyd or Macca.

But wouldn't be totally surprised to see it go to Hunt or even Milf (though doubtful).

I think Boyd is the logical choice given how well Bennett knows him and trusts him to do his role each game. Plus with his position at fullback and the influence he has in the team already, both in attack and defence, I think he'd be able to carry out the game plan better than most of the other candidates. He's already constantly barking instructions from the backfield, which shows he's a good a leader. I think the captaincy may lift his game to greater heights.

For people saying McGuire for captain, I know he definitely wouldn't let anyone down, and he'd certainly lead from the front with his actions, but he doesn't strike me as particularly smart or someone who has the ability to "manage" referees in a manner that say Cameron Smith does.

*cough* Paul Gallen "cough"

*cough* Paul Gallen "cough"

Comparing McGuire to Gallen is an insult to Josh.

Josh as Captain in a Gallen style wouldn't work cause he's not that selfish.

It's plain to see what a captain like Gallen has achieved...

lol that was the point i was just pointing out there are some coaches who are stupid enough to put in dumb ass players with 2 brain cells as captain

Can anyone make a case against Darius Boyd at this point?

Absolutely not... IMO he is the best choice.

And thats coming from someone who was extremely against him even returning.

So glad he proved me wrong

It's interesting they already have a new captain in mind as compared to last year. I wonder if Boyd as captain is ripe for the picking and that has something to do with why Parker is retiring. It would be far easier for him to put his own stamp on the team without Parker being there.

ADAM Blair and Sam Thaiday are the clear front-runners to replace Corey Parker as Broncos captain.

There will be several contenders for the captaincy but The Courier-Mailunderstands that Blair, 30, and Thaiday, 31, are the standouts.

Brisbane will lose two captains in two years when Parker follows Justin Hodges into retirement after this campaign.

Wayne Bennett made the point at Monday’s press conference that the Broncos wouldn’t have performed for Parker three years ago but relished going into battle for him now.

The Broncos need a new leader who players will put their body on the line for.

On that front, Blair and Thaiday are the obvious choices but Darius Boyd could also be a contender.

Boyd was Justin Hodges’ choice to replace him as captain.

Corey Parker announces his retirement from Rugby League.

Blair captained the club in Parker’s absence this year and at Red Hill officials refer to him as the “alpha male” of the group.

He also seeks out younger players to mentor.

Broncos chairman Dennis Watt said he was confident the club had natural leaders who would make excellent captains next year.

“There’s not a void of leadership, there are opportunities,” Watt said.

“Adam Blair is a leader on and off the field and like Corey they both have very high standards of professionalism and preparation.

“Adam is already there and you still have Sam Thaiday there who is a fixture of Origin level.

“Sam has a lot to offer.

“There are also opportunities for young guns to step up and take on some of the burden Corey took on each week.

“There is new leadership emerging in guys like Darius Boyd, Andrew McCullough, Ben Hunt and Anthony Milford.”

Parker will be a major loss for the Broncos team on the field each week.

Sam Thaiday could replace Corey Parker as Broncos captain.Josh McGuire is the man to replace him at lock next season with Tevita Pangai Jr to move into the prop rotation.

McGuire’s move to lock could see Sam Thaiday become a permanent prop although Jarrod Wallace continues to prove he is a first-class front-rower.

The Broncos also have gifted young props in Joe Ofahengaue and Herman Ese’ese who are mobile front-rowers capable of playing lock off the bench.

Watt said he still remembers Shane Webcke and Andrew Gee trying to put a young Parker in his place and the Bronco captain’s reaction shaped his career.

“The way he stood up for himself when he first arrived here stands out,” Watt said.

“He had heavyweight champions in Shane Webcke and Andrew Gee taking it to him but he refused to take a backwards step and that was as a teenager.

“He maintained that streak of independence throughout his career.

I think we need to be looking for a long term captain now ... Hodges and Parker certainly deserved their stints, but it is time to appoint a longer term successor.
