2017 Brisbane Broncos Captain

Thaiday would be a good captain...if everything a captain needed to do was off the field. He is a funny guy with a great personality, and I think thats why they might have him in rep sides. To keep the morale up. But he's just not good enough on the field anymore. Maybe once every 8 or so games.

Yeah I'm in the Boyd or hunt camp. I prefer a half if possible ...it might snap hunt back into gear ...anyone but Thaiday.

as for Thaiday ...exit 77 on the pacific highway would do nicely...although the Titans wouldn't want him after sneaking into the 8 tonight

its the kiss of death.. maybe give it to thaiday.. haha
Nah, he's proven to be immune...

Boyd is definitely putting his hand up, but I still think Macca is a good candidate too.

In my opinion Thaiday isn't really an option. He isn't even gauranteed to start next year... He won't be able to play enough minutes in a few years time to be captain and he hasn't exactly lead from the front this year.

Blair possesses alot of great leadership qualities that I like. The young forwards look up to him and I was happy to see him named captain earlier this year. However he disappointed me as I expected him to stand up more and he has lacked that extra edge since being suspended a few times this year. I'm just not convinved that in 2, 3 or 4 years time he will be producing consistent footy to be a mainstay in our starting pack, letalone captain.

Our last 3 captains have been our best and most consistent players. They lead from the front and you could always look to them to make that big play. I just don't see that in Thaiday anymore and Blair I'm not sure on.

CM saying Blair and Thaiday are front runners for the gig. Surely not.

Boyd 100%

He has now become a leader by doing as well as talking. We don't need say Sam - just a mouth with a belly. We need a leader who leads by example.

Boyd.

I'd be happy with:
Boyd
McCullough
Hunt
McGuire

I'd be satisfied with:
Blair

I'd be surprised but accepting of:
Gillett
Milford

I'd be filthy with:
Thaiday
Glenn
Inglis

Not sure if McGuire would be the best captain, he leads by example for sure, but he doesn't really possess the Cameron Smith wit modern captains need, I'd say Darius is the one that has all the tools required.

Experienced, smart, well spoken, and he virtually already leads the team around defensively from the back.

But McGuire is in the same mold as, say, Paul Gallen. He has lead the Sharks and NSW to succes......

My mistake. Carry on.

Can anyone make a case against Darius Boyd at this point?

Up front - I honestly think that Boyd would be a fantastic captain for a number of years to come, and if he wants the role, I'd expect him to get it.

The only thing that I can argue against this happening (disregarding the fact he may refuse it) is the fact that I don't think handing him the captaincy would expand his game - he's already our best on field organiser, a extremely level headed bloke and playing the highest quality footy. You expect and need that from a fullback, and he's doing it better than any other number 1 in the game at the moment. Basically, all the things you need from a captain he is doing, and this is obviously why he'd make a great captain.

However, handing the job to someone like McCullough, McGuire, Gillet or Hunt might just get push them that little bit harder and improve some of those captaincy qualities in those blokes, kind of landing you a two for the price of one. Boyd doing what he's already doing, plus a lift in on field leadership from a new captain.

I don't think that the above is a good enough reason to give to anyone else by the way. If you have the right bloke for the job, he gets the job. But if WB goes with someone else, or Boyd doesn't want it, I think there are possible upsides.

It's gotta go to McCullough he is tough, he plays with so much heart, he revs the team up, he's a great communicator. What a lose he has been since his been injured! He is so important in terms of our get forward and I think it would push him that much further to reach origin and so on and live up to his potential and he could captain for many more years to come.
