Anthony Milford appreciation thread

Was hoping to see the 100m try from Boyd/Hunt/Milford/Glenn/Maranta, but I guess it wasn't technically a Milford try-assist :P

Great work once again SF.

Yeah, I ran out of time and made the call to not include it. That was more Hunt than Milford. Which is why I also didn't include Macca's try against the Roosters.

This might be a little controversial, but I think Milford could end up becoming the best player in our history. He still has a long way to go, but he is off to a good start.

Making this montage, some of the shit he does.. And with so much ease.

On a pure "records" basis, he would have been off to a great start winning a premiership and CC Medal in his first season. :-(

That one on one strip.

Which actually went forward into Hunt. Should have been a scrum before Feldt had the opportunity to strip it off Milford.

Just sayin.

2 minutes 22 is really cheeky and smart thats my favourite assist from him

safe at home now ning.. will check it out just to get my head around it

oh and thanks again Superfreak.. may you be showered with naughty milfs by nature and gratuitous posts & PMs from FiH for all eternity

MAROONS selectors have thanked Anthony Milford for his honesty but while the Broncos star may not think he’s ready for Origin, they believe he is.

Queensland’s chairman of selectors Des Morris said Milford’s brilliant 2015 form and performance in the grand final proved he could handle the step up in class if required.

While Johnathan Thurston, Cooper Cronk and Michael Morgan are the first-choice playmakers, Morris said Milford was only an unfortunate injury or two away from being chosen.

Morris told The Courier-Mail that Milford was a legitimate option for Origin if there was a play-making injury and should consider himself part of that next group of playmakers with Ben Hunt, Daly Cherry-Evans and Morgan.

Milford put the brakes on his own career on Tuesday, stating he’s not ready to play State of Origin.

The star Broncos playmaker was emphatic when asked about his Maroons prospects.

Questioned if this would be the year he cracked the Origin arena, Milford quickly replied “No”.

“There are a lot more players in line before myself,” Milford said.

“Origin would be good but I am trying to focus on the Broncos.

“I am happy to wait.”

Morris said Milford was an exceptional talent and one they would watch this year.

He said Milford’s comments wouldn’t deter them from picking the 21-year-old if he was needed.

“There are no issues with him saying that because I think he’s just trying to take the pressure off himself,” Morris said.

“He’s in the mix for sure because it only takes an injury or two and we could need him.

“I hope Johnathan Thurston and Cooper (Cronk) are fully fit and ready to go but form and injuries change things.

“He had a great grand final but he played well all year actually, it wasn’t just that game.

“He’s very talented and he is a future at the Maroons for sure.”

Milford also revealed he would not play in the NRL Nines, a tournament he and the Broncos struggled in last year.

“I don’t think I’ll go. I think I’ll get more out of it if I play a game for 80 or 60 minutes,” Milford said.

The Broncos will name their Nines team next week and it is expected to feature a predominantly young side with two or three senior players.

On the weekend of the Nines, the Broncos’ best talent will be playing an NRL trial in Bundaberg against North Queensland.

"I am happy to wait".

The attitude of our halves is tremendous.

I'm happy for Hunt and Milford to wait a few more years, let them win a couple of premierships before they worry about winning Origins :)

They're so good ... They can do both

CONCERNS about Anthony Milford’s weight were raised internally last month after the dynamic Bronco returned from the Christmas break heavier than expected.

Broncos coaches picked the worst – or perhaps best – day to see how fit their players were with a brutal “beep test” held yesterday in 35C heat.

A beep test is run over 20m and the players have to cover the distance in a set time before a beep sounds.

Each stage the time between beeps decreases, forcing the players to run quicker and work harder. Players drop out of the test when they fail to make the mark before the beep.

Yesterday the Broncos squad was divided into three groups and Milford surprised by being the first to bow out in his group while Darius Boyd and Cronulla recruit Todd Murphy were the best performers.

Milford is built for power, not endurance, and clearly struggled in the oppressive heat.

The five-eighth was too heavy in January last year too after joining the club from Canberra.

But he lost the weight in the opening rounds of the season and was the Broncos’ best player in the grand final loss to North Queensland.

Sam Thaiday was a surprisingly strong performer in the beep test, *recording 18.5.

Hooker Andrew McCullough still holds the record with 22.

The fight for the club captaincy has taken a twist with Thaiday nominating Boyd and McCullough as leading contenders.

“I definitely think it (Brisbane’s next captain) should be a younger guy who will be around our club for a long period of time, maybe a Darius Boyd or Andrew McCullough,” said Thaiday, who will lead Brisbane in the Auckland Nines tournament starting on Saturday.

“Both those guys are *maturing as men and settling down in their lives.

“That will only help their footy careers.

“They are players that lead by their actions on the field, Darius with his talk and *Andrew with his *actions.

“Those two guys are very fitting for the job ... but who knows what Wayne (Bennett) is thinking.”

The Broncos have intensified training this week as they begin the trial period. James Roberts will play his first game for the Broncos this weekend, named in the club’s trial side to tackle the Cowboys in Bundaberg.

While North Queensland named a team devoid of star power, Brisbane have listed nine players that will be in their Round 1 team.

Ben Hunt, Roberts and Milford are the biggest names in the side, which also features Brisbane’s expected captain Corey Parker.

Kodi Nikorima starts the game in the No.6 jersey to give him game time ahead of the World Club Series, which Hunt is banned from because of a suspension hanging over from the grand final.

Broncos team: 1. Greg Eden, 2. Marion Seve, 3. Jordan Kahu, 4. James Roberts, 5. Aaron Whitchurch, 6. Kodi Nikorima, 7. Ben Hunt, 8. Jarrod Wallace, 9. Travis Waddell, 10. Josh McGuire, 11. Herman Ese’ese, 12. Matt Gillett, 13. Corey Parker Interchange: 14. Joe Boyce, 15. George Fai, 16. Salesi Funaki, 17. Anthony Milford, 18. Alex Barr, 19. Jayden Berrell, 20. Brett Greinke, 21. Jaydn Su’A

Parker is expected captain for this game or season?

There is no chance in the world that Thaiday got 18.5 in the beep test and veey sceptical about Maccas 22....

EDIT: Just researched the beep test levels. It only goes to level 21.... So those stats are just guessed I assume

Someone posted earlier that it's a different type, similar to a beep test.

Macca is slow, no reason he can't maintain that slowness.
