Ben Hunt's future is uncertain now

Apparently the best way to move on from a traumatic experience is to make a joke about it and then laughing about it. Maybe that's what langer and Walters were doing.

It hurts to admit it, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me if this stunted him completely. It's the worst result possible for him, basically.

I'm not sure why people are upset with this post as it's reasonably fair and balanced.

A really resolute character would be required to bounce back and I definitely agree it would be a struggle to overcome it. I also agree that WB will have to play a key role in that bounce back . An event like this has the potential to stunt or even retard a person's progression and it wouldn't be a surprise if it did just that. It would however be a disappointment and I think your post was perfectly fine.
 
He was already having a shit game before the last few minutes, to come up with a spear tackle then the knock on just capped off what is surely the worst game he'll ever play.

I expect him to come out next season and play like he's got the biggest shocker of his life out of his system.
 
Its a bit of an over reaction. Might as well start a thread blaming Macca for not putting Parker through for an easy try under the posts. That would have won us the game :rolleyes:
 
There were too many things that could've gone better in that game. The Hunt shockers are just the most visible because of their timing...

I am much more upset that Ben got put into that position in the first place, through the utter negative footy we played for the last half hour.
I know defense wins titles, but I cannot fathom why we didn't keep playing the way we did all season, and got us to the GF in the first place!

So much this. I have no doubt if we kept playing our normal footy we get at least one more try and ice the game, why did we go away from what we know works?

Exactly this, there was a point when we had defended well for 4 or 5 sets and the cows were getting frustrated, I was like righto now we'll put some points on off the back of that defence and break the game open... Nope.. We kept kicking for touch and giving away ground. We were never going to win with that game plan?? any other game in the past 6 weeks we would have turned the screws and put the pressure on with 20 to go, but they just clocked off... F***ed if I know what they were thinking

It was Andrew McCullough for not putting Thaiday away under the sticks that lost us the game.

Watching Granville outplay A.Mc all game was hard to watch ....I wouldn't be surprised if it were he who decided to slow the game down

It's all up to Hunt on how he will be remembered. Is he going to be the guy that dropped Brisbane's grand final in 2015. Or is he going to be known as the halfback who brought Brisbane back-to-back premierships in 2016 & 2017?

Nobody remembers Lockyer as the player who dropped three balls on his test deubt or Hodges as the player who had a shocker in his Origin debut. Yes, they get mentioned but they haven't defined them as players.

The ball is now in Ben Hunt's court.

Bit hard to put Thaiday under the black dot when it was Parker who had the line open in front of him. Makes me wonder if you were in fact watching the two #9s or maybe you were watching the waterboys...

Who sets the game plan?

The kicks into touch were, IIRC, planned. Macca and Hunt, repeatedly doing it. I can't see they did that of their own initiative.

In fact, at times in the first half, and for a lot of the 2nd, I was utterly mystified at the change to our winning formula. I thought often our playmakers, Milford in particular, looked confused and frustrated that players weren't where they were supposed to be and performing their roles as in previous winning structures.

The first try off the Blair offload - one of our great plays, was almost the exception than the rule. Does anyone remember how many times Blair and parker offloaded?

To me, it looked like the changed game plan put everyone off, including Hunt, and especially us not continuing to pressure their increasingly fragile defence on their line in the 2nd half when I thought they were really vulnerable.

Instead, the Cowboys attacked our line in THAT try an an offload did it. We should have been doing that all the time instead of booting it into touch.

As for Hunt's future, I think he will be almost at the top of the half back tree next year. If his kicking game improves, he can be the best. For mine, Aside from his kicking game, which has had it moment, the GF added the last element to his development as a truly great halfback - composure under pressure, discipline and mental toughness.

I also think the captaincy might make that happen, but then, leadership is always a 2-edged sword for a lot of players. In Hunt's case, I think he would make a great captain, and this experience will really add to his class. He is too good to dismiss or forget.
