Bennett not to return - Signs with Knights

looks like hes coming back.

Yes. I'm very interested in the details and arrangements of said come back.

In particular what it means for Hook. I get a very good vibe out of Anthony Griffin. I don't want him to be another "Craig Bellamy". And by that, I mean that he goes on to another club and is hugely successful.

Would Wayne be interested in an almost "co-coaching" capacity? Would Griffin be interested in that or would he see it as a backwards step for his career, going back under the shadow of Bennett?

Just not sure how I feel about this.

Re: is the master coming home

I reckon they has a plan. And it involves Hook, Benny & Locky....

That's what I'm hoping. Bennett more at a directorship role assisting Hook at a high level, making sure the coaching structure at all levels is working, as well as managing Lockyer's coaching development when he comes back in 2013.

But I'm just not sure that's where Bennett's head is at.

Re: is the master coming home

Sounds promising.

It would be fantastic if we can keep Hook at the club. I've been very impressed with what he's done so far.

Re: is the master coming home

Certainly sounds promising. I wouldn't be against that, if Hook is comfortable with it. As long as he doesn't feel like it's a demotion.

He probably won't, as it's not like he applied to be head coach, it was just thrust on him this year.

First of all - winning is never 'boring' IMO.
i respectfully disagree. i watch football for the entertainment, not for the winning. winning comes second to entertainment. boring football is boring, even if its my team doing the boring football and winning by doing it.

i dont want Griffin as Bennetts sidekick, i want Bennett as Griffins sidekick. let bennett do all the player mentoring he wants, let him give Griffin tips and coaching advice - but i dont want bennetts gameplans and player selections. the club needed to move on from them, and thats what we've been doing the last 2 years. dont stop now just because people think bennett will magically give us a premiership with a playing roster consisting of players barely out of their teens.

Yep. He sort of fell into it really. So I don't think he'll think it's a demotion.

I wonder if it's possible that Griffin knew before he took over what role he would play given the probability that WB was coming home. eusa_think

Quite possibly. Wouldn't surprise in the least if Paul White said to Hook that he was going after Bennett for 2012 and asked if he was comfortable to run the show in 2011 with that in mind.

Re: is the master coming home

I remember thinking at the first press conference that Hook looked like a man with the world on his shoulders. He looked like a deer in the headlights tbh...He's looked more comfortable since then, but still...

On the other subject going in this thread:

I am the most competitive person in the universe, and don't understand people who don't think the whole point is Winning. Of course Winning is the most important thing. Losing is not an option, particularly at the highest level of any given sport. I wouldn't care if we won every game with 40% of possession on the back of defence as long as we win ffs.

Re: is the master coming home

I am a Broncos tragic. I love league, but the Broncos are special. Sometimes, when I get the chance, I watch some NRL games not caring who plays or who wins - just for the pure entertainment of it.

But when the Broncos are on, I watch in the hope that they will WIN. I find every tackle they make entertaining, and every bust. I don't care how they win, flashy or mongrel, ferrari or sherman tank, I just like watching them win

He seems pretty certain that Boyd will follow Bennett to Brisbane.
Boyd could certainly fill the centre spots with Hodgo, if he manages to steer away from injuries. Hoffman has the FB spot down pat and I don't see Boyd doing wonders at 5/8, besides being solid...

thats right...........for the people actually PLAYING the sport. we're not, we're just watching.

i didnt start watching rugby league because i wanted the Broncos to win. I started watching rugby league because of the sport and the entertainment, and supporting the Broncos was the logical thing to do. i support them when they win, i support them when they lose, i support them when they play well, i support them when they play poorly. but i support them because theyre a rugby league team, and i love rugby league.

if i dont enjoy the game, i dont really care who wins (other than for state of origin) because the only reason i watch rugby league is for entertainment. i personally didnt like how we won the 2006 grand final, because it took the gloss off a premiership (incoming 'you only didnt like it because the storm lost' comments in 3..2..1... [icon_razz1 ).

if your team wins while youre having fun, awesome! if they win while youre not having fun, thats still good - but it barely means anything to me. its like someone punching you in the balls for $5 - youve got $5, but youre not going to look back on it with fond memories so whats the point.

i dont play games on xbox that arent fun just because im good at them. hell, i can hit 100% of pretty much every song on bass in Rock Band 3 on expert, but i dont even touch bass because its not fun for me. if all i cared about was winning, thats all id play cause i win all the time. same goes for footy - its about the fun and entertainment for me, not about the winning.

its the same with Oztag for me - im there to have fun first and foremost. i would MUCH rather have a fun game and lose than have a boring, scrappy game and win. lots of the time ive come off the field extremely happy after a loss, and disappointed after a win.

Re: is the master coming home

I'm in the AP boat. Of course, I prefer to see my team win, and I feel hollow if they don't. But I'd much rather watch a nailbiting, close game with plenty of flair and excitement that sees my side lose narrowly than one where they trample the opposition.
Obviously, if I'm not watching it, I don't give a rat's about any of that, and I just want the news updates to tell me they won.

Re: is the master coming home

Getting $5 to get punched in the balls is the same as the Broncos winning ugly, really? [icon_ee

You betrayed yourself with your reference to Origin.
I don't know about you, but the 2006 grand final "ugly victory" beats almost any Origin victory in my book. But yeah, I understand you... It was against the Storm after all. [icon_razz1

Re: is the master coming home

There's a difference between social sport and sport at the elite level AP.

I'm sure rocky enjoys watching nsw get owned as it was entertaining.

But let's just make this into another AP vs world.
