Glowing endorsement for Yawnion. If you're a pussy, that's the game for you! :loool:
There is a good reason why so many dislike Mundine. Actually there are several reasons why and they are shared by the majority of sports fans and the wider public.
Firstly, his self aggrandisement . Not only did he speak of himself in the third person but he claimed to be the greatest and the best. He had no right to do so, that description is ours, the public to bestow.
Secondly his achievements were intended for only the 2 % of Australia who were indigenous , something he constantly repeated. As he often said " I'm doin this for mah people ". In short, his racism.
Thirdly his poor sportsmanship . He denigrated those who beat him and belittled those he thought inferior ( the rest of humanity )
Fourthly, his idiotic statements following the tragic events of sep11 in America. Coupled with his childlike understanding of world events and his obvious lack of education makes him ill placed to comment.
For a lot of us he represents what is wrong with the media circus. He is a clown. Good for an idiotic comment. What I find most offensive about Mundine is his complete and utter inability to be his own man. He read about ( probably had read to him ) Cassius Clay/ Muhammad Ali and tried to live his life rather than his own. Ali claimed to be the greatest and he was. It was a different era and he truly was fighting for black rights. Mundine had no need to fight for those rights, they were in existence already, that fight had been won already. Mundines father was a better fighter and like Lockyer was a humble hero. Mundine converted to the Muslim faith, following the Ali script.
If he had of been a lot less of a show off and been his own man and let us decide if he was the best he would probably have been universally loved.
Couldn't agree more
Mundine had a lot of talent and could have been one of the best in Rugby League
Problem was, he thought he already was the best, and so never fulfilled his potential
Then claimed racism cost him rep honors
Head so far up his own **** he has no concept of reality
A guy like Darren Lockyer deserves (in fact demands) resepct
Mundine deserves a punch in head

I don't disagree with this, and completely see why people would dislike it. I assure you, so does he. He puts on this character, heavily inspired by Ali, as a marketing ploy. Whether or not it was the right path is questionable but you can't deny its effectiveness.Firstly, his self aggrandisement . Not only did he speak of himself in the third person but he claimed to be the greatest and the best. He had no right to do so, that description is ours, the public to bestow.
I think this point boarders on racism itself. Showing a people that is still facing huge social inequality that they can be successful is not what makes him racist. Some of his other comments may be considered racist but representing his people isn't a reason to hate someone. I think its a result of you being uncomfortable with them as a people but I don't want to speculate on your personal views.Secondly his achievements were intended for only the 2 % of Australia who were indigenous , something he constantly repeated. As he often said " I'm doin this for mah people ". In short, his racism.
Completely agree with these points. They a idiotic but I still feel its part of marketing himself as a "heel". Combined with a real want to speak about injustice without the required mental ability to pick the right causes to battle for.Thirdly his poor sportsmanship . He denigrated those who beat him and belittled those he thought inferior ( the rest of humanity )

Though I agree he is doing a poor impression of Ali in front of the press, the bold line is possibly the most naive comment I've seen on this board. Completely incorrect. For a lot of us he represents what is wrong with the media circus. He is a clown. Good for an idiotic comment. This is horrendous. You come across as completely ignorant to the reality of race in Australia, and what the **** are you talking about 'not needing to fight for' improved conditions for aboriginals? That is insanity. I'm sure the mods would prefer us to stay on topic and not get into a race debate though. As for your belief that my comments about representing his people reflects a somewhat racist belief of my own I can only say I reject that outright. Mundine identifies as aboriginal as is his right but, he owes much much more to other races. He is only partially aboriginal and that part is a minority. By all means champion aboriginal causes but rights as enjoyed by all Australians ,aboriginals already have. The aboriginal community has the same rights as all others and it can be reasonably be argued they have greater rights.

He very reasonably wants aboriginal people to be better off but unlike Ali he has never needed to fight for a right.
Please re read my post. I did not say Mundine did not need to fight for improved conditions, quite the contrary in fact. You seem to be confused as to what a 'right' is. My last line highlights the fact that I believe he is right to fight for better conditions and earlier in my post I wrote ' by all means champion aboriginal causes'. I can only assume your indignation led you to miss those obvious statements .
