MANLY star Brett Stewart will appear in court next month after being charged with DUI on the Northern Beaches on Monday morning.Witnesses contacted The Daily Telegraph with sightings of Stewart being loaded into the back of a paddy wagon on Pittwater Road, Warriewood, just after 10am.
A NSW police spokeswoman confirmed a 29-year-old man was taken to Mona Vale station after failing the roadside test, and later returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.079.
Stewart was released a short time later and has been charged with low-range drink driving. He is scheduled to appear in Manly Local Court on 7 May.
It’s understood Stewart was drinking with friends at the Steyne Hotel on Manly Corso on Sunday night and caught a cab home around 1am.
After leaving the police station, Stewart told The Daily Telegraph he’d committed an error of judgement.
“I had a few drinks last night. I went home, went to bed and got up this morning,” Stewart said on Monday.
“I thought I was fine and headed off for some breakfast. I got pulled over and I blew low range.
“I’m really disappointed this has happened. I had no idea I was over the limit.
“There’s no way I would have got behind the wheel if I thought there was a problem.”
A Manly spokesman said the NRL Integrity Unit has already been informed.
Honest mistake, if true. Not much to see here.
This is obviously David gallops fault
