Brisbane Broncos tipped for giant halves shake-up

Tbh Im not as bothered as I was 6 months ago about the proposition of losing oates. If he truly wants to play 2nd row that bad then let him.

He doesnt have the upside in the 2nd row that our young players do. Sure, he will kill it for a season (and everyone on here and in the media will be saying how much we have stuffed our recruitment and he will then become a mainstay of the maroons because he isnt wearing a broncos jersey) but I cant see him sustaining it longer then a couple of games a season. Determination to prove the broncos wrong and the element of surprise (added with the hype from the media on a player once they play for another club) will get him a great first season but he was gassed in origin playing on the wing, and doesnt make great decisions defensively quite often.

He does have a great hit in him though and runs great lines and could prove to be a great second rower, but with sua and fifita jnr they have already shown to have the more complete second rower package.

The money would be great to give to give us a more well rounded squad. 1 cheap but experienced winger to plug the hole if needed, 1 cheap but experienced prop to guide the ypung ones again, and 1 solid option at half that can truly put the pressure on the others to perform or perish...

The funny thing is on last night’s episode was Kent was quick to jump onto the fact that it must be magic that Broncos can keep all 30 players under the salary cap, but once Blocker made the same suggestion about the Roosters signing Morris, it’s suddenly, “why does everyone question the Roosters?”

I would agree if we had some good wingers coming through the system.. That's our biggest weak spot right now. In comparison to clubs like Penrith who just churn out 1-2 NRL standard outside backs every year seemingly.

I find it funny that this is the exact same squad that all these same “journalists” were certain wasnt going to make the top 8 despite the coaches record. So they either totally misjudged the quality lf the squad, let their hatred of bennett get in the way of their judgement, or they are now just talking absolute shit....

I think its a blend of all 3...... but mainly the 3rd option

Staggs, roberts, boyd, isaako, opacic, bird, kahu, pearson, farsnworth (18 years old?), shibisaki (still under 20 i believe?) to fit into 5 spots with a couple of solid back ups. we arent as flush as we are in the forwards of course but add in 1 cheap but experienced specialist winger to cover if our juniors dont develop then i think we are quite strong there

A knock on effect of our great young forwards is we dont need oates’ metres from our half as much as before. Still great to have, but we arent as desperate for it as we were before. We just need a winger who can finish tries and doesnt make mistakes

This is the thought process of these journalists when they do their predictions.

"hmmm let's look at the Broncos. Strong forward pack especially if Lodge can stay on the straight and narrow, good young forwards coming through too. Halves is a bit of a weakness with no real game manager, maybe Milford can develop some game management skills and work on his kicking game, bit of an unknown but should be serviceable behind that pack. Wow look at those outside backs, some of the best in the comp.

I think top 4 is a stretch given the unknowns in the halves but definitely in the eig... Hang on the still have Bennett coaching, **** I hate that guy, stupid old flog always making us look bad piece of shi...

The Broncos will not make the 8 and will be lucky to avoid the spoon. Cowboys and Parra for the Grand Final, I love their coaches."

Most of those 'experts' agreed that we didn't have a strong enough forward pack. Now they are saying they are the best young forward pack in the competition and Brisbane should win 1, if not 2, premierships in the next 5 years. You have to take what they say with a grain of salt. Before the season started many 'experts' were predicting a Cowboys v Eels GF, the only GF they'll be playing for is the wooden spoon GF.

That's why nobody pays attention to the "experts" let alone post about it. Being a so called expert doesn't make you clairvoyant and considering clairvoyancy is also bullshit, it all ends up as just speculation. An analyst's predictions have no bearing on me because in the end, it is basically just guesswork.

That's right. Nothing can truly be predicted in a complex and chaotic system such as the NRL with SOOOO many moving parts.

Look at us even 3 seasons ago.

Have a look at how much has changed.

Who would have ever thought the tigers wood have Benji Marshall and Robbie Farrah playing for them again.

Who would have thought Benji played for the Broncos off the bench for a year.

Who would have predicted us to have such a dramatically different squad and hardly any QLD rep players in origin (far more Islander International and NSW origin rep players now)

Anthony Don is off contract and the Tits supossedly have offered him less than $180k which he is on now.
I'd happily take him for $180k to replace Oates for a couple of years.
 
I wonder what it would have been like if Oates was never chucked on the wing, and just kept developing as a back rower. He'd be better than Su'a easily IMO, provided his body held up.
