Yep, if he doesn’t work out at 5/8 he goes back to centre. Worst case scenario...

The problem is when you're paying overs for half a dozen players it adds up. Staggs has the worst attribute of any player right now, he's unavailable. What has he done to earn that type of money?

Further it just confirms that the Broncos are utterly clueless about their halves and now they're trying to solve two birds with one stone. Sign a hyped up player and justify it by playing him in a role he has little experience in.
 
If staggs were to go to 6, we would need a ball playing 1 and would help for them to have a general play kicking game.

Just so we clear, I am not ignorant of the issues here and I totally agree about the issues with this signing but if the amount is 600k or even less, I am really ok with it. And of course the Broncos are clueless about their halves, the weekly lucky dip highlights that but we are a desperate club with a useless marquee that while finally freeing up money off the cap, coincides with almost no one needed available. We need our management to get creative and it is mostly the same people who have got the club into this mess by being push overs. So yeah, this signing could go totally pear-shaped but it does have the centre fall back option and I suspect his defense can improve if we get the right players and structures in around him.

Again good luck getting those right players and structures when you're paying them twice what they're worth, especially when unproven Queensland Cup players are set to earn $400,000.

I'm not ok paying 400k to unproven Q Cup players, not at all.
 
So bye bye Milford? It’s kinda sad how it’s all ending with seasons 2015-16 being such incredible years for Milford. I guess we’ll just see Milford kicking his feet for the rest of the year now not needing to fight for his position.
 
Didn’t Crichton sign a 3 year $600k+ contract as a centre? Now I know he has his eyes on fb but him and staggs are probably comparable. I really hope we aren’t paying $700k a year though.

i believe he was 700k a season.

although the Panthers could have kept him for 500k, except they only had a verbal agreement, they didn't get his signature on paper

It is all part of the rebuild and it isn't going to happen overnight. He is an out and out gun and if he can run as he does and develop a kicking game and passing game, this could be brilliant.

Now they need to get the halfback right with Milf's money, problem is there isn't much available unless we get creative. I think a Staggs-SJ/DCE combo I'd be going hard at.

I heard it was $2.4 million over 4 years, which is quite a lot of money for a center who need a fair bit of work in a lot of aspects of his game, and its a huge amount for an unproven 6. News reports today are putting the amount at $2.8 million.

I personally think Staggs will do ok at first, people will be happy with him because he is something different. then as time goes on, people will see he doesnt have the game to be a long term 6 then we will be left with a center on huge money. Then you have the problem of what happens to the player/s we replace him with at center. Its a hugely risky move when you consider we could sign Reynolds to fix up our half problem, and he is proven there.

Confirmation from Brent Read.

Likely means Paul Turner or Hayze Perham is headed our way.

I am hoping we bring in Gagai as well to play centre (and Opacic) and shift Farnworth to fullback.
