He won a premiership there. Don't think McHunt's ISC knowledge is great.
You almost make that sound like it's an insult.

They're keeping that page warm for him.

If the Broncos aren’t on the phone everyday to Walsh’s management trying to get him here for next year then they’re missing our only chance at signing a decent 1.
Niu isn’t a fullback and Cobbo is at least 2yrs away from ready, if he even ends up there.
Whilst the Dolphins are trying to land Munster and Ponga, we should be ensuring Walsh is also removed from their Wishlist.

Can we though? Is he actually a free agent for next year?

He reportably has a get out clause if he doesn’t enjoy living in NZ. Even if he doesn’t let’s just get the media to get him a release. Payne style.

Unfortunately, my guess is he will land at the Dolphins

We've now released Arthars and Walsh (Lodge too actually) to the Warriors while under contract. If he wants to sign with us, you'd think the Warriors would just cut their losses as a good will gesture.
I thought we loaned Arthurs to Warriors...

And we gave them Kodi

If nui is not our fullback and herbie is not likely to go back there (or is poached by the dolphins), we miss out on walsh and cobbo is still a couple years off being a first grade fullback and we are looking for an available interim option, it is slim pickings for players actually off contract.

If we couldnt entice/negotiate players to break existing contracts, I am not saying we should, but we could look at dufty. I know he has a poor reputation (although other than the BBQ I can't recall other off field issues) but he has speed, supports well, good ball skills and passing, x-factor, decent positioning and urgency at the back. Yes he is not great defender, or great in the air but he is an option that you could get on the cheap. We could do worse whilst waiting for a long-term option.

Like I said, I am not saying this is a preferred option, but I think it is handy that we look at contingencies.

Yip I agree. i thought we were mad to let him go to the Dogs last year when he came off contract with St George. Besides the obvious short-comings you mentioned he does have the one thing we seem to be lacking at the back - someone to run through the line with breakneck speed.

Our whole backline is supposed to have speed to burn, but so far they ALL seem to be running with lead boots on. It's something I find hard to fathom.

I really rate Dufty, I'd easily spend $600k on him, which is a big deal, as I don't even run an NRL club.
