I think we need a hooker, but looking at the recent going on with Brandon Smith and now the news today about Reed Mahoney, i've got the feeling we just dont have the money for a hooker.

I suspect we do have the money, just don't want to spend it on the wrong player.

sounds like he was trying to use us to bump his contract offers ... but we weren't buying it
reportedly the Eels won't budge from their 450k a season offer, while the Bulldogs are prepared to offer 650k a year

If the Eels are deadset offering 450k they're crazy. Mahoney is quality and is a 650k player all day. I'd take him at that price happily.

Pretty much what the other posts have said, plus Ikin has come out and said we arent offering him anything because they are happy with whats here. Not so sure i believe him as they didnt offer Turpin a contract and we have been strongly linked with Hodgson.

actually, sounds like they are fucking up their negotiations pretty badly right now.
they reportedly gave Mahoney, Gutherson and Paulo (who are all managed by Sam Ayoub) a take it or leave it ultimatum that was due to expire at the end of today ... but now they've backed down from that stance

Ikin's comments about lui are interesting. I get the sense that lui wanted a top 30 position but we would only offer a train and trial (because we want to leave a spot open).
Carrigan is priority. The others are "nice if you can" territory but i wont sweat it at this stage if they fizzle.
We need quality from hooker but i think we might see improvement regardless if we have a half like reynolds taking the pressure off their shouldiers.
I felt sorry for turpin, and macca before him who often had to deal with halves who were clueless, carrying injury, or terrified to "take the bull by the horns" for fear of stuffing up and being sacked.
