Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2022

Considering he was paid way overs and is well beyond the next highest for his position I can't see why there would be an issue.

I think the next highest paid second rower is/was Crichton on about $800k (excluding locks like Murray, Tmol, etc.).

That's about what Fifita is worth when in form i.e. what we offered him when titans outbid themselves... I'd say he's currently worth about $700k.

I get what you are saying, but the problem i see, and i dont actually know if its a rule, is can you get him to leave a club he is at and pay him way under his current contract. I think your value is about right for him though.

It could depend on circumstances

In the scenario being presented the titans are looking to offload him, that generally means they aren't getting value for their money... and also players have signed on for less when released early... just look at every player we have released over the last 3yrs.

If however, Fifita is off contract and titans are still offering him $1m to stay, but he wants to leave and sign for $700k to go somewhere else... valuation of the player may come into question.

I think if the player in question is well over the average valuation for a player in the same position then that's what would be allowed for a contract offer to be accepted.

It's kind of the same when Ricky was offering Milf $1m to stay in Canberra and was pissed off that we weren't forced to match their offer. Just because they're over valuing the player doesn't mean that that becomes their price.

EDIT: I think in your comment you were also talking about a player's contract being lower at the new club and potentially being lower on the cap. That isn't allowed to happen, unless a player and club mutually agree to part ways i.e. the player gives up their contract to move on... or the current club pays the difference (i.e. the cap value remains the same, player contract remains the same, but it's spread across two clubs).

If Fifi coming back is going to cost us Herbie I'll drive the **** back down the M1 myself. Not giving up a hard working bloke who came through and stuck with us during the Pies disaster for a fella who hightailed it for the bright lights, bags, and comfortable footy by the beach.

I agree, but I don't think he has it in him. I'm sick of carrying lazy players. We don't need that, we need players who put in 100% every week and Riki does that in spades. We also don't want to unbalance the squad when we desperately need more from our spine (though after the past 2 weeks that talk has settled).

We don't need more Dave Taylors and Anthony Milfords. Fifi is going right down that same path from what I've seen, which is a crying shame because he is an absolute gun. Maybe his heart was never with the Titans and bringing him home would make all the difference? I don't know, and I don't know if I want to take the risk.

I'm an unabashed Riki fan as well, I love what he brings despite his flaws/errors.
I am a big fan of Riki’s defence, but Fifita is the best attacking second rower in the comp who was freakish for us before taking the insane cash on offer and slowly drifting into cruise control on the coast. A move back home could be just what both parties need.

Also, with Piakura coming through, and being invested heavily in, it seems like the club isn’t sold on Riki as a long term option.

I'd take Fifi back at <700k. If it kept Haas happy too, it would be another win.
Fifita>Riki any day, unfortunately.
Riki for mine hasn't kicked into gear like I hope he would have, especially now Reyno is next to him.
A Reyno & Fifita combo could legit be anything. And a happy Fifita would mean a non-lazy Fifita.
I don't think he was part of our cultural 'rot', sure he had his issues, much like Haas has..
However if he wants out of the tits that bad, I'd say Wayne would be willing to offer more $ then we would put up.
Not sure where that would leave Piakura?

We definitely have room for Fifita on the right deal. I'm still leaning towards Capewell being our best option at 13, he has the ball playing ability.

I know Riki seems like a good clubman on and off the field but overall if we can get Fifita on a good price i would take him over riki in a heartbeat

If we do lose Herbie we probably need to recruit a center who is comfortable on the left side. As much as i rate Hoeter, he's naturally right sided same as Brenko. I think pretty much any center who is NRL ready at the club is a right sided player. No balance.
Left hand / footers are 10% of the population .

The Roosters managed to have Cordner, Crichton, JWH and SST in their forward pack in their primes with Collins in the bench and still a gun spine and backs. Why shouldn’t we be able to afford Fifita?

i feel like capewell would be a better defender in the middle than on edge

But can we actually afford that with the state of our spine and dollars already invested in the forwards as well as Staggs as a backline strike weapon.

I think the hard decisions need to be made and investment is needed in the spine before we splurge on more luxury players.

Herbie showed last night that he is an elite winger, which was already known... but I don't think we have the right balance across our team to invest in that at the moment.

Talkin elite wingers .
What was goin on when Selwyn was inside Kotoni and threw the pass that Kotoni juggled behind his back ?
Staggs on wing outside Cobbo WTF !! ??

I wonder if Fifita will look back at his decision to go to the Titans as one of those decisions where players are very unhappy

He's never really been a consistent player with them, he'll always be good enough to have some standout games but even Holbrook still doesn't know how to use him

I think Selwyn was just making his way back out to the wing after a hitup and that's where they ended up when the ball came back out that way
