Meh, I think we are mostly aware we will lose him, so it has kind of reached acceptance stage.
Dolphins will be able to be aggressive in first year or two of the contract, but year 3-4 would be crazy to offer big dollars with how weak their recruitment has been. Considering they could be trying to talk 1m+ to Munster, having near 2.0m combined tied up with Herbie is crazy. That money would land them Fifita or the likes.

The way the Broncs are currently heading, its a far safer bet to stay put for 100k or so less and longer contract.

Maybe he’s trying to pump up his price by scoring individual tries…..
Sound tactic, but you have to actually score them. He's no Xavier Coates.

I've said this many times: you don't get paid to tackle.

The sad part if farnworth leaves is he’s another junior we’ve nurtured to be nrl ready for another club. His new club will probably teach him how to pass.

Herbie's not a team player, look at his statement....me me me me me, look at his ball hog ways on the field. Broncos are better off saving the cash and letting him go, Cobbo will make a better centre.

If Herbie does go we have to land Munster or Walsh or even better both otherwise that's a failure IMO
We’ll be alright without him. Hoeter did a decent job filling in. Our next centre probably won’t consistently get the metres Herbie does but if they can set up their winger then they’ve probably made up for it.

I do think we desperately need a 6 and 1 so I do agree the club needs to go to market there but if TMM keeps kicking on he may just do until Cobbo learns how to position himself and talk.

It’ll be even harder to accept if we lose both farnworth and Oates. Suddenly we won’t have those metres they both gain, that’d be hard to replace
I don't see why we'd lose Oates. 300k, take it or leave it. Who else is going to pay him more than that? Can't see it happening.

I'm a fan of Herbie, but he's not special, just solid. If you replace him with Opacic for 250k, we win that trade.

Herbie is special, to me anyway..I might go for Redcliffe if he leaves for redcliffe

Periera on the wing with cobbo in the centres will make more metres the our current set up, if we need it.

Only going off highlights this year, past years performances and stats but pereria looks like a deadset gun to me. I get the feeling once he gets a chance we will be saying "how the **** was this bloke not in the team?!"

Have seen you mention Opacic a couple of times recently, what's the go there? I mean, I don't completely hate him as a player, but he's about as bog average as you can get in terms of options. Can we not set our sights a little higher?

Just for arguments sake -

Herbie Farnworth - 7 games, 5 tries, 3 linebreaks, 140 running metres per game, 3.2 tackle busts per game.

Tom Opacic - 5 games, 1 try, 1 linebreak, 71 running metres per game, 2.6 tackle busts per game.

Neither of them have any try assists or linebreak assists on the season. It's a pretty big downgrade.

No arguments on bog average, but he's a safe reliable pick that lets us spend more money on a 5/8 or fullback or anywhere else really. I'm in the camp of centres should be worth **** all unless they're genuine stars like Staggs.

I wonder if the club is in discussions with Walsh and therefore they’re ok in letting Herbie go? Didn’t even Ikin say part of the reason for allowing Isaako to walk this year was to free up money to re-sign the likes of Herbie and Selwyn?
It’ll be a kick in the guts to the club if Herbie does leave, considering the time and effort we have poured into him. You do have to question why he wasn’t extended this time last year.
Should never have been able to hit the open market.

everyone keeps saying we need to spend the $ on spine members. And whilst I do agree, who is hitting the open market that is a genuine chance of coming here? You can bet Munster or Moses won’t be here. Doesn’t sound like Walsh will be either. There are no decent 9’s or 1’s hitting the market that I can think of?

Isn’t he involved with that player whisperer turned agent guy from Sydney that used to get paid to tell Tedesco how great he is?

He didn’t want to be extended. He wanted to test his market value.

Whether people like him or not Herbie is a pass away from being one of the best in his position week in week out.
Replacing a quality centre with a quality spine player is a win but if we're going to loose Herbie to replace him with Lee or Opacic and not upgrade key positions with the money we would have spent on Herbie that's a downgrade.

Its about spending your cap wisely. Tom at $200k is good value. He's off contract, low maintenance and has the right attitude and will always do the 1 percenters. That gives us money to spend in the spine where we are woefully short. He is comfortable on the left as well which we actually lack here. We just need a him to do his job and thats good enough for where we are now if we can spend the money in positions like 1,6 and 9 where we have very little quality.

Thats where i'm at. We have messed up by trying to have top line players in every position and its unbalanced the cap here. Stats dont give you the whole story either. There is plenty stats dont show. We probably need a few in certain positions, like Jensen and Kennedy for example who are cheap and just turn up and do their job. Once we can get back to being a regular finals side, then you can look at things again and try to get in a bit more quality.

I know people loathe them, but its exactly what the Storm do. They pick up players who can do the job and spend money on matchwinners elsewhere. Tom has had the chance to join them 4 times now and i think he stuffed up by not going there tbh.
