Talk of Cobbo getting 2m over 3 years is very concerning.
That's probably what tigers are offering or some other piss team... and the media run with it like "It's understood Broncos could need to match as much as $2m over 3yr to retain the young flyer that is destined to be a mainstay for Qld"

I like him, i rate him, but no way should we entertain a deal like that. We have shown what one quality spine player has done for us. He's basically the reason we arent bottom 4. Spine is where the money needs to go so if we pay him that kind of money we better be confident he is going to be a quality 1 in the very near future.

I know people will disagree with me because of the hype around him, but he's just not earned that kind of contract and we need to get away from paying so much money on potential. I wouldnt go a cent over $400k a year on a 2 year deal.

I agree. Give him 400k a year for the next two years to grow into the fullback role. After that if he looks like kicking on then sure give him the big contract

I absolutely agree with no more than 400k but I'd be starting at 300k on a 2 year deal and I'd be only going 400k if it's a battle to keep him which I don't see him wanting to move away from his family. Then after that 2 years see where his at with his development.
Selwyn is still in the development stages of his career he's 19-20 and still very Raw, Herbie is more of a finished product Selwyn shouldn't be getting more than we are offering Herbie.

Completely agree but could it be a Flegler situation.

3 year $2m extension, starting from next season so essentially 2m for 4 years? $500k per year is still steep but better. Even better if it’s immediate and is spread over 4.5

Reported as till end of 2025, so 2m over 3 years, 3.5 at best if it's immediate.

Cobbo is already signed for 23, so it’s an extension for 24 and 25.

It will be like Piakura the value will be in 24 and 25.

Like the media knows... Bird was on a contract ranging from 600 to 1 mil depending on the day of the week and the alignment of the solar system. They announced Fifita to the Titans on 1.2 mil yet listed him at 900k in the last article about highest paid players. My 5 year old has more consistency than these muppets

Wouldn't take those numbers literally.

It's described as a "2 million dollar mega-deal" that will keep him until end 2025, and then that his "value" would "soar" above $600k. So clearly, it's like the Haas deal, in that it supplants his existing contract, and involves some retrospective fiddling around to fit into the cap.

Whenever you see a clean round number like "2 million," that's a ball park. Unpack up or down at your own discrection.

And also, it's only at the tabling stage. The rumour probably came from the board, who are traditionally rough with fine detail. Maybe Lockyer said something along the lines of him becoming a millionaire. What a million dollars? No, more like two.

We need to sign a young halfback and have him shadow Adam Reynolds for the next few years and pick his brain. He can take what he learns and develop his skills in QLD Cup.

We can't be in a position where we don't have a halfback when Adam retires.

If we play it right, we could have a halfback that's ready when Adam retires.
