THE Brisbane Broncos have another option in the halves for season 2014, with the signing of Zach Strasser from affiliate club Redcliffe Dolphins.

Strasser, the son of former Brisbane Rugby League identity Ziggy Strasser, has impressed in the Queensland Cup this season - his first full year in the side after playing for Redcliffe's premiership winning Colts team in 2012.
Rumours have swirled about the Broncos' roster for 2014 with Anthony Milford and Ben Barba headlining a list of potential candidates to add some attacking spark on the field.
Strasser, 20, weighs in at 85kg, measures up with the Broncos' veteran props Scott Prince and Peter Wallace but has a slight height advantage over both at 182cm.
The young halfback has signed a two-year deal with the Broncos, which will start in the preseason.
Broncos great Petero Civoniceva has captained the Redcliffe Dolphins in the Intrust Super Cup this year and told the Herald that Strasser, among others, was one of the young Redcliffe players who deserved a spot at the Broncos.

Former Broncos halfback Shane Perry, who once captained the Redcliffe Dolphins, has only words of praise for Strasser."I know Zach and I do a bit of work with the halves at Redcliffe, with kicking and that," Perry said.
"I've kept an eye on him and I think he will go well if he knuckles down in preseason.
"I had a chat to Hook (Broncos coach Anthony Griffin) about him and he is one of those naturally-gifted players, of a similar mould to Daly Cherry-Evans.
"He seems to have a lot of time with the ball and goes to the line well.
"Good halves always seem to have a good amount of time with the ball.
"Defensively he is pretty good too but it won't hurt him to put a bit of weight on."

Went to school with Zach, great signing, he's been really good from what I've seen of him for Redcliffe this year.

i'm sure we'll never see him in first grade for a few years

Yeah, probably not. Maybe a small cameo appearance, then never to be seen again, something that Hook enjoys.

On the other hand if we fail to get Milford and Barba, he could be a chance I guess, since Wallace is likely leaving.

Don't know this fella but he seems to have potential from what i've just read and the fact he is a Redcliffe player makes me feel a bit better.

He has a cool name, **** Milford, play da STRASS with Barba at fb.

Good to see he's been signed by us and not some grubby club like the Bulldogs.

Hope he turns out to be a winner.

He has plenty of talent. Probably a couple of years off NRL at least I reckon but he has shown loads of potential at Redcliffe, despite a tough year with injury this year.

He went straight from Colts to QCup this season which is quite rare.

Good signing for depth at this stage.

I like Strasser he's tough and is always around the contest. Quick thinking.

I'd take his word over Norman or Wallace's, he at least can say he helped win us a premiership

ha ha!!! tears of laughter streaming down face!

Actually think Strasser looks like a good 'un. Broncos team round 1 2014....

Barba (1), Kahu (2), Milford/Reed (3), Yow Yeh (4), Hoffman (5), Strasser/Milford (6), Hunt (7), Hannant (8), McCullough/Baptiste (9), McGuire (10), Glenn (11), Thaiday (12), Parker (13)(c) (I can dream right?), Tasi (14), Kennedy (15), Oates/Reed (16), Gillett (17)..........

Simple game plan....when we have the ball forwards get over the advantage line (no fancy tip ons, your primary job is to create space for the halves) and when we don't, smash anyone from the other team that tries to get over the advantage line. Stuff wrestling, you don't need to wrestle with a bloke if you set them on the a#@$.

Outside backs, when we have the ball, simple....1) don't stand flat 2) don't crowd your halves 3) run your lines and always expect the ball, when we don't have the ball, keep coming up until the tackle is made, don't lose interest on the blind side. Back the f%$% up when there is a break.....fullback should always back up on the inside shoulder, the other guys should be outside the bloke who made the break.

Halves, you're pivotal! play what's in front of you, don't just go through the rehearsed plays! Be inventive, if you see a winger with an overlap, a kick might get it there quicker than a pass. Great halves are inventine and play on instinct (Langer, Lockyer, Lewis, Johns, Thurston).

Overall...if a team keeps giving away penalties on the line, they are obviously stuffed and they only want to concede 2 point, don't release the pressure by doing that. Go for 6 points!!!!!!

If ever, will just be used as a tackling bag at training as Hook doesn't rate his second tier fringe players, he doesn't even rate his bench which is ironic considering Hook is a fourth tier coach at best.

Perry actually had a surprisingly effective long distance kicking game.

Nothing pretty about it but somehow he'd always get the ball to stop around the in-goal.
