Corey Oates Injury

When a player is injured as a result of foul play the offending player and his club should be required to pay compensation. That would clean the league up in a hurry.

Ben Matulino found not guilty of shoulder charge on Corey Oates, free to play this weekend.

Fucking incompetent *****. Same old shit every year, they bleat about consistency and where are we? Round 2 and already 2 controversies about ref touching and shoulder charges. **** me.

"Matulino's defence team argued that he was bracing for contact, and that the involvement of a second tackler meant he couldn't properly wrap his arms around Oates.

Their evidence suggested the tackle was not by definition a shoulder charge, and the panel agreed, clearing the Kiwis front-rower to play this weekend.
The incident took place late in Friday's 15-point loss at Suncorp Stadium, with Oates set to be sidelined for up to six weeks with a shoulder injury.
Matulino had been looking at a three game ban for the Grade One offence after being charged for a similar incident on the Dragons' Gareth Widdop last year."

So again, do not shoulder charge anyone. Ever. Unless you're bracing for contact and your teammate is in the way, then it's ok. Despite that it knocks an opposition player out of the next half dozen rounds. **** you NRL.

So you can sprint at someone, stop dead in your tracks, and belt them with a shoulder charge by that reasoning?

So players should start using this reasoning and take out the grubs then.

There needs to be some sort of immediate penalty that has enough weight to benefit the team incurring the foul play. A send off seems excessive, but it's the only thing I can think of.

Bringing back the 5 minute sin bin for tackles on report or a compulsory interchange for the defending team (or 1 interchange deducted, or if they have 0 left, the player sits out). A real, immediate penalty and advantage to the other team.

This is of course still subject to the send-off of the worst offending tackles.

Pretty fucking easy really.

Napa should have sat out for 5 minutes with BJ Leuliua at the weekend, for example.

my thoughts (and expletatives) exactly!!

dunno if its just me but little hope as far as im concerned of things improving under greenturd..

I can't believe James Graham wasn't charged for his shoulder charge against Penrith. He was penalised during the game but the match review committee said "nothing to see here"...

Expect it to become the norm (even more than it already is) with Greenturd as NRL CEO...
