David Taylor on the footy show

Put it this way, if i was a 16,17 year old kid trying to crack into First grade and the coach was Wayne Bennett I would of kissed his arse if he had of asked me to. Dave Taylor is a very good player but to me he seems to get very cocky when a few things go his way.

Plus he is such a ball hog. The two tries i have seem him score down the left side of the field were very good tries BUT if he had of passed the ball to the winger the winger would of scored untouched. Instead he went himself and had to beat 2 or 3 players. Now he did do this but still why take the risk. One answer to that and its he is too cocky. One day he will go for the same play and will loss the ball or go over the sideline and it may cost the team the game.

Dave Taylor is a great player no dobut but lack's a brain sometimes that may one day come back to bite him!!@@!!

people (on here especially) used this same train of thought and 'reasoning' when talking about Billy Slater for years. 'sure he scored but he shoudlve passed', 'sure he scored but one day he wont and it'll cost the team', etc etc. thats just the type of player he is. sure, it might not work every time - but when it does, its brilliant and its something that basically noone else in the game can do.

Dave Taylor was 18-20 when he was being coached by Bennett, these are the years of development for most players. Ivan had Taylor playing out wide when he was coach but Taylor had decided to sign for the rabbiths for more money. If Bennett had played Taylor out wide early on he may have had an impact in the NRL sooner.

I'm sure Wayne had his reasons for 'stifling' the role of some of his young players.

Remember, the Waynetrain thought for a number of years that teams could play without an established half back too.
Wayne has done lots of great things but he has made some glaring mistakes along the way as well.
I think most people would suggest that the direction he set for Dane Carlaw was questionable and ineffective.

Maybe Wayne wants players to prove their physical and mental toughness.

Fair point if that is the case.

Losing Dave Taylor is potentially a huge blow. He is a game breaker and has the uncoachable x factor.

In saying that, the current broncos style of in and out shifts at the ruck mean that we rely less on individual brilliance, like what Taylor can provide, to bust teams open.

The worst thing about Slater's existence is having to put up with AP jizzing about him at every chance and bringing him into every second thread regardless of the topic.

Actually DT played a fair bit more centre than front row at school.

Which DT are you talking about? He was always front row from 13s onwards. In grade 11 he played 2nd row for SBC but that is because they had a monster pack with 3-4 blokes topping 100kg.

Ummmm - my cousin played with him, so I watched a lot of him growing up and he played a fair bit of centre in his early teens.

Really? Cause I played with him/against him and as long as I'd known he played front row.

What's your definition of "early teens" Flutterby?

Q Cup ref I know up at Rockhampton is saying he played prop the whole time he's been involved with him, from U16s on.

I saw Lincoln Lewis with Wally Lewis after the Broncos vs Rabbitohs game. kthxbai.

Quick question...

Who cares where he played? Name drop somewhere else.

Yeah I used to play with him and Tom Humble back in the day. In fact one of my best mates used to hold Tom Humble out of a run on spot. [icon_lol1.

Tongue firmly in cheek.

lol. I KNOW COREY PARKER CUZ HE LIKE, TOUCHED MY ARM AND STUFF, AND MY COUZIN HUGGED HIM WUNCE, SO NOW THEIR BEST FRIENDZ. HE'S MAD

I TOUCHED FRAWLEY'S UTE!

Who's name dropping - never said I knew him, in fact I have never met the guy. Just said I saw him play in his younger days. So by your definition - saying I watch the Broncos play is name dropping.

No, you're all arguing about what positions he played, and cousins playing footy with him. It's boring. No-one cares.
