Fight for Fullback

Who should be the Broncos fullback in 2013?

How? If the **** halves don't feed the ball and create space, the FB can't do a thing.

Slater would have looked woeful last year. The only difference is that Slater would have given his all, something Hoffman didn't. By his own admission.

Slater would still be able to create plenty. He wouldn't be as great as he is but he can still create tries out of nothing.

Everyone else who played fullback last year nailed the second man play and scored IIRC in every game. Hoffman just isn't a fullback who can read play (from what I've seen) in any way but our halves did find the runner when it wasn't Hoffman.

Norman didn't score against either Melbourne or Manly.

Heck, Capewell only managed to score because Sandow literally tripped himself presenting an easy passage - Mitch Rivett would have scored that try.

We should really looking to the future. Playing Hodges there is only a short term fix.

Might have to go the video but I seem to remember we ran that play and he set up tries, once again something Hoff can't manage.

Norman for me. He has been pretty good the times he has played fullback and I just dont fully trust Hoffman to get back to his previous good form. Like what people have said previously, Hoffman has been very clueless in attack and shuts down most attacking plays. If Hoffman could get back to his good form of ?2010-2011, then I feel MAYBE he should be FB ahead of Norman.

Love to see Hodges there. Might be a bit of a struugle with our current issues with yowie and copley but with both of them fit itd be an awesome sight with hodges at fb and yow yeh and copley wing/centre and reed and kemp centre/wing on the other side.

He had two scoring plays, neither of which hinged on him.

Against Melb he ran the second man play and gave the final pass for our first try

The onus of the try was Hodges stepping back in the middle and blitzing Widdop. Hoffman might not be Hunt, but he's shown he can at least throw a pass.

Hoffman is light years behind Norman in attacking contributions. Norman may not have thrown the key pass but the fact he threw the pass meant we could score. If that were Hoffman he's just running into the line to get tackled.

Have to disagree BP the fact Norman timed the play helped create that try. As far as I'm concerned Hoff has no clue if he is not running straight. I think this season will show that fairly early on but hopefully Prince can help out, for the sake of our team we need something from our 1.

I can't recall when he did that for the last time.
I can't recall when he was present in support after a line break or offload either.
I also cannot recall when he actually timed his run for the sweeping second man play without smashing into the defense.

Norman if anything, is excellent at the second and third, has the benefit of a kicking game, and can throw a good pass as well.

The point is not exaggerated pete, our 1 should be doing that every game and more than once a game not twice in a season.

You are the one making exaggerations by posting a clip of Hoffman scoring off a break. He scored 3 tries of all last year - Sam Thaiday actually scored more tries. That clip against Souths isn't an example of his tries from backing up last year, it's the entire sample size. Which is really the issue.
