The family of a disabled security guard who appeared on the NRL Footy Show has slammed Channel 9 after Paul "Fatty" Vautin said he was drunk.

Bouncer Greg Stacey was on the door at Brisbane's Caxton Hotel on State of Origin night when he was door-stopped by Allan "Robbo'' Robinson.

The 21-year-old from Manly West in Brisbane, who has benign epilepsy, suffers from slurred speech and learning difficulties.

Well, what do we expect? That's The Footy Show down to the very last detail & IMO they were just seriously unlucky here. I don't condone what they do, but there have been hundreds of "on the streets" reports from the likes of Reg over the years where random bogans make a huge impact, comments are made and for the most part they're true and forgotten. Poor form to pick on anyone though, really, and one must've thought they'd be a bit more careful with this particular one - his problems with speaking were more than clear and the mere fact that he was working in that capacity should've led them to add 2 and 2 together.

Both NRL & AFL footy shows go in search of people who have problems.

He did seem pretty sloshed though. Seriously working at a pub, on state of origin, mightn't be all that uncommon (sure it's not profesional and such, but i'm sure it's been done before, heck i've seen bouncers drink on the job before).

Feel sorry for the bloke being humiliated like that, but i think they just called it as i saw it and i've talked to some friends about it and they all thought he was drunk to (before Fatty mentioned it, while the segment was being played).

Yes he did seem drunk, but they would have gone to the hotel the night before.

Even if they didn't, they had 24 hours to enquire about the bouncer.

I think the Footy Show knows they've made a mistake and will feel pretty bad about it.

It was a simple error of judgement, that probably could've been prevented, it wasn't.

They're going to apologise for it, case closed IMO.

I saw it and I thought he was ripped off his tits, but on another note why would you have someone with that *disability working 'that' type of job. If thats whats he like under pressure, what happens if an all out blue started and he was in the middle. But then again his Dad said he was very good at his job and hes been doing something like 18 mths so he must be doing something right.

*I'm not saying people with disabilities shouldn't have jobs, I was just thinking that maybe the job choice was wrong....man if you knew who one of my best mate where you would understand. :)

I think that's the key point here. Guarding the Caxton on Origin night is not the sort of job you'd expect someone with this sort of impairment to be doing. I saw it and thought he was sloshed, everyone did. Had they known the context of it there's no way it would have gone to air. Ch 9 have apologised and stated there will be an on-air apology next week.

Feel desperately bad for the lad though. Apparently he was deadset embarrassed and wore some shades the following day but people still recognised him.

Would you not think though if he were that drunk he would have been allowed to be working?
I too thought he was drunk and wondered why he was allowed to work at all.Robbo and Reg only interviews the handicapped, down and outers and people who do not speak English well. That to me is not funny at all anyhow.
Poor guy I do feel for him.Robbo is the one who should wear shades btw.WEED!

I thought he was pissed. I wouldn't have thought someone with a disability would work in security, like Tee said what would he be like if a massive blue started? Good on him for having a go but, I'm sure the footy show didn't mean to make fun of him.

Much ado about nothing. I feel for all concerned and I think Robbo knew perfectly well that the guy had an impairment.I actually watched Robbos face during the segment and he appeared to be keeping a deliberately straight face. The real blame is not to be laid at the feet of the interviewer nor the hosts but at the shows producer/director/person employed to vet the shows content.

If Vautin and co had seen the footage beforehand then they would not have commented. There's no doubt that the bouncer will receive a gift that will mollify him. He's had a lifetime of embarrassments and no doubt has developed a thick skin to the slings and arrows and will move on.

If I was Vautin though I would be very angry, not at myself but at the fools who put me in that position. A place where a very honest reaction, shared by 99.9% of viewers, embarrassed both utterer and victim.

Thats what I thought, don't think a person with epilepsy should be working in a position where there is a real chance in may get a blow to the head.

I don't even think it's all that, if anything the victim has taken this wayy over the top.

Yeah I watched it for the first time this year last week. Just wanted to see the SOO excuses, and the TV remote was to far away to justify getting up and getting it hahahaha

Fair enough.

And those that do watch it, still take things seriously? And still expect anything else but gutter humour at the expense of others?

It's like the stories of controversial things said and done in Big Brother. For god's sake, both shows are designed to test the depths of human decency for the sake of cheap laughs.

TBH, I'm a fairly regular watcher of the first 15 mins of the show. I haven't watched more than half an hour of it for probably a year or so, and I'll often not even last 10 minutes. Good to see them chatting some footy at the start and previewing anything that might be coming up, but tbh I really do just get sick of the sh*t humour. I love a joke, but it's not even funny.

As much as I don't like a lot of the presenters, I'll still regularly watch the Sunday footy show and roast - regardless of whether I agree or not, football discussion is still great!

Sunday footy show and the roast, great shows. When Johns doesn't try to be funny that is.

The Thursday footy show make Rove look like the world's funniest comedian and TV presenter!
