With Hodges latest stint on the sidelines, one of my mates here raised an interesting point.

Hodges will now have (give or take) 50 points against him. He has paid a penalty of 6 weeks for his dangerous tackle, however his gesture would have only seen him cop 1 week. So in fact, with his tackle, he has paid 7 weeks, because of the loading/carry-over points.

Now, the next time he does anything, even a loose arm, he will more then likely cop at least 2 weeks (1st week for crime, 2nd week for carry-over points).

Is this fair on players? With the current system, they are actually paying MORE then what they are penalised.

Example; If I rob a bank, I get 6 years. The next time I commit a crime, say assault, because I don't have a prior conviction for assault, chances are, the bank robbery won't be allowed to be used as evidence against me.

However, players carry their loading points, even for different infringments (Dangerous tackle-contary conduct) I understand and agree in principle, that players have to be punished harder for repeat offences, however if they aren't the same offences, is it fair they should have carry-over points?

Thoughts?

i think if it is the same charge, loading should apply. but is it is a completely different charge there should be no loading.

Carry over points = good behaviour bond. If you don't keep your head down you forfeit the bond.

I think there should be categories of offences. Head high, dangerous throw, kneeing, grapples, punching etc, they're all contact penalties/foul play and thus should be considered similar.

Non-contact ones - dissent, bringing the game into disrepute etc, should be considered similar.

But unless inthe same category, no loading should apply.

For instance, a dickhead that constantly abuses referees or makes racial remarks to opponents, load him up each time. But if he happens to make a careless high tackle and has never had a dangerous throw or any kind of foul play before, then the incident should be treated as a first offence.

I think the loading is 50% if same offence, otherwise it is a lesser amount 20% (I think).

Agree a bit harsh, but easy solution is to pull your head in and stop being a dickhead........you listening Justin

Usually if time is done and you get out early the remainder of that sentence is still pending. If you reoffend in your parole period then you have to do that time. I stand to be corrected (Mick set me straight if I'm wrong) but that is my understanding.

The bottom line is Hodges needs to understand he can't do what he wants. He is paid to be a professional footballer and to coduct himself in the best interests of the team he should start giving the Broncos full value for their money.

I also thought that if you went for a period of time (maybe 2 seasons) with no further offenses the loading gets dropped - like a reward for learning your lesson and trying to reform your ways. Not sure if this is true, but I have heard that somewhere. And if it's not in currently, it should be.
