LOCKYER ELBOW INJURY

I just think the time is right for him to go in terms of QLD having the guys there to smoothly take over, he has achieved it all. From a Broncos point of view I think we are fine if he does keep playing because he was far less dominant last year in fact I would say it was one of his least consistent years on the field and Peter Wallace stepped up and filled the gap so we were still a creative attacking team, add to that we have Ben Hunt and Tim Smith as backup I really don't think we would miss him that much if he was on rep duty or he got injured.

Agree with those saying it's time for him to give up rep footy. His selfish desire to play rep cost the Broncos his services for a lot of 2008. He owes the Broncos to give rep away.

Nothing selfish in him wanting to play rep football if thats his choice, his given everything to the Broncos and its his decision to make no one elses, we have the depth in the halves at the club to deal with his absence that in prior years we didn't have. I would personally prefer him to retire on his own terms but I certainly would never expect him to and call him selfish for doing so, that would disrespect one of the clubs all time greats and most loyal players.

I'm not really sure how we need him more than ever this year.

Yes, we have a young team and should be play origin we'll miss his experience for a couple of weeks.

but is he the only player in the team with experience? no.

besides, we actually have good backup in the halves this year, and some experience there was well.

MY tip is that he will retire after the May 7 Test match and go out on top in Australia. Will one more test give him anymore Test records ???

he needs one more try to break the record, he has equalled it at the minute.

What record?

I'm on the other side - I want him to play one more year of Origin and the Anzac test.

1) Would be awesome to see him break the record for most tries
2) Would love to see him captain the side to win 5 in a row...

He hasn't got much footy left in him. Quitting rep footy would probably improve the quality of the remaining club games in his career, due to a fresher mind and body.
Also, with QLD and AUS he's experienced a wealth of success in the last few years. It's not like he has unfinished business, or is desperately seeking that first Origin win, or anything like that. He has established himself as the best representative footballer of the decade, often at the expense of the Broncos, so I feel it's time he reduces his workload and gives something back to the club that's been so accommodating to him recently.

That being said, the one rep game I wouldn't mind him playing is next year's All Stars game, because obviously his debut was a big disappointment.

Good news!

Darren Lockyer has been cleared of any serious injury and will be available to play in Round 1 against the Cowboys.

Bad news

Jharal Yow Yeh has suffered a knee injury and will be unavailable for a
minimum of four weeks pending further consultation.

All I cna say is a i hope we get rid of this bad luck and injury run early in the season.. Spewing about Yow Yeh even moreso than Lockyer TBH!

If Yow Yeh is out for round 1 i think Kemp will take a wing spot

Yeah and Hoffman to fullback.

Big loss there. Damn we've got some serious depth from 1-7 but I just wish we had more depth from 8-13. :|

Hoffman looks to be out injured too [icon_non

Yep, 4 weeks or so they reckon.

So no Hoffman or Yow Yeh for round 1. Guarantees Kemp and possibly Beale a first grade spot.

Indeed - which means Kemp has about 4 games to cement the FB spot all the way up to around post origin time I suppose?

Makes me sad that Yow Yeh and Hoffman won't be fit. I was looking forward to a backline of
1. Hoffman
2. Kemp
3. Winterstein
4. Folau
5. Yow Yeh

Plenty of talent there and IMO it could work well. Although we now have the chance to see how Kemp goes at fullback and possibly how Beale goes in the centers.
